Hello everyone, and welcome (back) to Gooseberry! We still have a couple weeks until the actual game opens, but we anticipate a lot of new characters joining us.

RULES

• So the OOC comm isn't flooded with dozens of new introduction posts, please introduce your new characters here!


• Remember to put your character's name in the subject line!


• You can say as much or as little as you like. Consider hitting the basics like, house, classes, clubs and year, then describe their personality and interests briefly. Mention what kinds of storylines you want (friends, enemies, etc.) and get to plotting!


• Then go around and reply to other peoples' introductions, establishing lines and relationships.


• If you have some plot you'd like to talk to people about that involves a returning character, comment here explaining what you're planning!

Archie Rose!!!

Hi everyone! This is Meggie, one of your mods, with my new Ebonhide sophomore, Archimedes Rose! You can read his whole profile here!

Classes: (Core) Charms, Herbology, Hermeticism, Potions. (Electives) Aesthetic Magic, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Magical Rudiments. (AS) Muggle Tech (beginner).

Archie's one of the two students known for dosing everyone with Amortentia last year, and everyone would proooobably know that. His participation is common knowledge. As far as your characters would be aware, the only other responsible student (Scott Johnson) was the mastermind, and he was expelled. Archie was only suspended. Archie's a soft-spoken eccentric who lacks compassion but has a wily and precocious attitude, and he's very secretive about his home life and day-to-day activities. He's kind of destructive in his curiosity, and last year he would steal peoples' electronics to dissect them.

Archie has one major bad habit, which is that he tends to get overly obsessed with his crushes. He'll develop short-lived infatuations with people that go way beyond propriety as he stalks them across campus to gather information on them. The depth of his stalking probably isn't common knowledge unless you're relatively close to him, but anyone can tell that Archie's kiiiiind of a creep and becomes obsessed with his friends, and crushes a lot on upperclassmen.

BUT EVEN CREEPY KIDS NEED FRIENDS. And enemies! And whatever else! I'd also need to find a volunteer for the first person he develops a crush on in-game. I'm going to be testing how I want to run this aspect of his personality, aaaand I'd like it to be someone who's played against my characters a little and actually enjoyed it because uh I don't know how this will go. SO HIT ME UP IF YOU'RE INTERESTED. ♥

Also, please let me know at my dropbox if you have any strong feelings for or against Archie targeting your characters. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable or ruin his relationship with someone who'd like to be on good terms with him, and I get that realizing this kid stole a lock of your hair and a handwriting sample might be a friendship killer. You can also let me know if you REALLY REALLY want him to go after your character and I'll do my best to oblige eventually haha.

Nisha Lewis

Helloooo. It's Jenny. Nisha Lewis is a coppertale sophomore and you can check her out in detail here. I was bad and posted the almanac meme for Nini last night, but here's a quicker rundown:

Nini is new to GB this year, having come from Ilvermorny where she was in Wampus. She is a former competitive gymnast, specializing in uneven bars and vault and also enjoying messing around on the steady rings - she's, generally speaking, more about strength than grace. Now she is a pro-quidditch hopeful and is extremely serious aboit her aspirations. She also just likes flying in general so if she can get away with being on a broom she will be on a broom. MACUSA kids would know Nisha as the daughter of ultra-intense activist, human shark and representative of West Virginia, Annie (Ankita) Lewis. Oh yeah and I guess like some people may've been familiar with her older brother but he's dead now so toot toot. 😖

Nisha is aggressively weird and loves pranks and will be pranking this year so hold onto your butts and also I am sorry M&M I am probably going to live in the mod dropbox this year asking if Nisha gets caught doing dumb shit. She is also eager to please people she thinks are cool, despite having a rough exterior.

HELLO HELLO I'M VERY TIRED! BUT THIS IS ALEX! And THIS is DINAH DANGER DIXON, Coppertale Soph!! Her whole profile is here and I wrote her history in a single sitting and never looked back so judge it accordingly.

BULLET POINTS:

• Her parents are (magic) marine biologists who also run a cryptid-themed houseboat B&B in British Columbia. She grew up on a boat. She likes her little cramped spaces.
  
• Only child of older parents, growing up just kind of isolated and surrounded by mostly adults. She's awkward around people her own age and doesn't know how to actually talk to people but she's going to TRY, DANGIT.
  
• Terrible at understanding concepts like personal space, volume control, and her own mortality. Or subtlety. Or style?
  
• Is more confident than she should be honestly. But her parents were yuppies who, like, refused to use the word No with her and talked to her like she was an adult and basically she doesn't understand that the world doesn't revolve around her. Metaphorically. She understands that scientifically. Duh.
  
• Has a very overactive imagination and tends to draw a lot of comics that involve not-even-thinly-veiled inserts of all y'all. Her self insert is called DINAH DANGER, and she's a VIGILANTE (for what? It changes a lot, Dinah Danger has a lot of causes).

Corrigan Bailey!

Hi, it's Kas and I'm here to break the seal on really long intros! Corrigan Bailey is one of the new Ebonhide sophomores! Here's her profile!

Concept: Former child star proves her worth with sass, audacity, and big bat.

Clubs: Quidditch (Beater, reserve last year), Archery, Choir, Duelling & Fencing, Gaming.

• Corrigan grew up in Austin, TX, and went to a local day school before entering GB in her freshman year. Although she's halfblood she was raised primarily No-Maj and received a lot of her education through tutoring as opposed to classroom-based learning.
• She was a child celebrity. She and her sisters were cast in a Nick-esque TV show called Fly High where they portrayed a band of sisters called The Songbirds who balanced life, fame, and music. The show became a sensation overnight and, in the way that media aimed at preteens often is, Fly High and The Songbirds were marketed through the wazoo. For four years (8-12) her time was split between shooting, tutoring, appearances, interviews, and actual concerts (performing as The Songbirds). Eventually Fly High's popularity waned and the girls' contracts weren't renewed; they were pulled from the public eye and put back in day school with the public justification that "they need to focus on their education."
• She's at Gooseberry on a music scholarship: she sings and her fave instruments are the acoustic guitar and the harmonica). Her parents were a famous indie rock duo in the '90s but they haven't been successful since pre-kids. They constantly chase the celebrity bug and see their daughters as a way to get there again so there's a lot of pressure for Corrigan to succeed, but only in what they want: music.
• Quidditch has become her passion. She's doing everything she can to do well by the team and she looks at its seniors with stars in her eyes (sorry, Solo) because she thinks they're JUST THE COOLEST. Especially Casper Kim, whose opinions on everything she has decided are crucial to becoming a better Beater.
• She's sassy, energetic, and stubborn, curious, outspoken, and friendly — but flighty at the same time, and uninterested in people who have made a bad impression, or who she finds boring. She latches onto friends like they're family and will defend them tooth and nail. (Even those who don't realize it, like the members of the Quidditch team that she interacts with the least.)
• She thinks she's behind in everything (especially magic things) and does whatever she can to rectify that. This applies to anything from playing Quidditch to knowing what tequila tastes like. It can get her into trouble because her need to be on par with her peers, and accepted by them, overrules her desire to behave.
• She collects "curios," little magic-imbued figurines. Most are lined up on her desk and their spells sometimes clash, causing unexpected effects like turning her desk pink or whistling in response to nearby speech.
• She hates the name "Corrie" because it was her character's name in Fly High and she's trying to become her own person. Last year she insisted people only call her "Corrigan," but "Cor" is fine this year. Just... not Corrigan.

ALL LINES ARE OPEN! CALL NOW! She needs friends, enemies, rivals, anything and everything! The couple of groups that she'll already be pestering for sure are her roomies (hello bright pink girl gang!! 💖 ) and the Ebonhide sophomore boys, and the ebonhide Quidditch team. Spencer Sweet

Some quick notes on him:

• Spencer's an aspiring professional figure skater whose career is on hold because he lost his temper and beat up a competitor backstage. OOPS. If your character's deep into the online figure skating fandom they might have heard of this, but Spencer hadn't yet achieved fame before being told to go focus on his education and cool off.


• He arrived sophomore year. This is his second year at Gooseberry.


• He has a nearly perfect autobiographical and photographic memory that makes school a breeze for him, but also causes him to be a little intense and hard to deal with in other areas. He can forget things, but hates it when people point it out and gets very defensive.


• He's LOUD and puts his foot in his mouth a lot. But he's also friendly and warm if you can get past how intense he can be. Spencer doesn't relax and has a short fuse, but typically ends up falling back on altruism.


• Spencer's very self-conscious and worries a lot that he's irritating. He can, in fact, be exactly that.


• He's currently dating Micah St. Clair... but they're going to break up the first week of school. Their summer romance was very tumultuous.


• Which means in due time he's going to revert back to his default stage: being a big dumb flirt and a trashy party boy.

Heathcliff Lacey

• Heathcliff has been at Gooseberry since his freshman year and transferred from Wakefield Academy of Modern Magic in Georgia. His mother works at Wakefield, where she teaches Hermeticism, and his Muggle father is an engineer. Needless to say, they're both smart cookies. His little sister, Pandora, followed him to Gooseberry and was sorted into Azurcrest.


• He's not the brightest star in the sky (...he's dumb, okay?) but he's friendly and outgoing and definitely means well for those that can put up with his overwhelmingly boisterous nature. He's a people-person that hates being alone and is prone to playful roughhousing, open affection, and otherwise overstepping boundaries.


• He's always struggled in school and defined himself largely through his athletic ability as a result. He's competitive and he likes to win, even when winning doesn't really matter, and tends to be a bad loser. He'll get over it and work harder afterward, but the initial loss is always a shock and an injury. Because Wakefield didn't have a Quidditch team, he'd never played before coming to Gooseberry and not being able to play the only sport that matters at the school for two years really stuck in his craw. He learned to play mostly from Roxie and thinks she's the best.


• He can be moody. It's easy to make him happy and earn his friendship, but it's also easy to make him sad (he cries during movies, leave him alone), easy to make angry, and generally easy to rile him up. He bounces back readily enough most of the time, but he reacts to everything.


• Surprisingly, he spends a fair amount of his downtime gardening and practicing divination, two interests which defy his typical dislike for quiet and focus. He's devoted to divination in particular and does daily readings (which he records in a journal) and makes custom teas for tasseomancy. He got into gardening after meeting Phoebe when they were both kids and they're good (if unlikely) friends. They have very informal tea parties with shitty store-bought cookies and none of you are invited. Okay, maybe sometimes.


• Open to any kind of connections with him! Friends, enemies, people that generally think he's Too Much, potentially even exes from freshman or sophomore year if that's a thing anyone's interested in. He's a pretty friendly guy and can easily see people differently than they see him, so there's also the option of Cliff thinks you're pretty tight but your character actually wants to punch him in the face. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He's new to the Quidditch team but he's been trying to get on since last year and he'll likely be very friendly with the other Quid players and trying to impress them. He's also very invested in Archery Club and does a lot of stupid trick shots with his stupid Coppertale friend(s).

Extracurriculars: Music TA. Choir, event committee, gaming, gardening. Morning barre. She also has a BAND, The Heretics, which she insists is a group endeavor but is more or less in charge of.

Natalie is a little hard to get along with for a Ribbonfin, because she likes doing things her way (read: the correct way). But besides that, she's very sweet. She went to Ilvermorny before Gooseberry, as a Horned Serpent, and wasn't very popular there because she struggles with learning magic and everyone in her academically-minded house thought she was kinda dumb. So now that she's here, she's eager to make LOTS OF FRIENDS. Sometimes too eager. She approaches friendship like a teething puppy approaches your delicious hands.

This year she has decided that it is time for her to experience heartbreak for the first time, and she is going about finding someone to break her heart in the wrongest way imaginable.

I'd like to talk about her relationship with the other music students! And the other Ribbonfins! And potential people for her to "fall in love" with! Don't be mean to her though because her big sister Kenzie and cousin Kurt are both prefects starting this year >:(

One specific line I'm looking for for her is another sophomore who was at this school last year and is good at poetry and shit. Natalie's a very gifted composer, but her lyrics are... uhmm... lacking? So she's been working with this person on her album, which is also her senior project. Bad lyrics notwithstanding she could probably turn it in tomorrow if she had to. She's basically done with her senior project already.

Prefers to pretend like she has no family - her parents are pretty lukewarm on her, her aunt who her parents sent her to live with for a while kicked her out, and she has a brother who is a year younger than her and is not at Gooseberry because he's dumb and not very talented. Her parents spend money like they're rich but are essentially just piling themselves in debt.

When she was living with her aunt she was in Savannah, GA, and went to the same school as Heathcliff! They're super buddies. But she had to leave when she was 11 :(

Tuesday has very long arms

She is from Little Gackle, South Dakota, which looks like a dump next to a trailer park from the road. Her parents never married, because they didn't really believe that was for the best, and have been in an open relationship most of Tuesday's life. They have two separate houses and try to be as good at co-parenting as they can.

Tuesday's the second of five children, who ARE all named after the days of the week. As a result, she's very good at cooking, cleaning, and listening to problems. She only likes to do that SOMEtimes, but she loves her friends generally, and will always bake cookies for them ♥

She's a failed gymnast who got waay too tall to be effectively competitive, but she replaced it by her great love, STUNT FLYING. She competes in junior broom rodeos throughout the midwest/west and she has won prizes at most of them. She's a fearless flier who can be found doing things like handstands on brooms through the Quaffle posts whenever anyone lets her. She's very much a daredevil, and the more she almost dies, the funnier she finds it. No one let her near Azurcrest.

Tuesday fancies herself something of a girl James Dean and dresses in semi-alternative clothing paired with a lot of pink all the time. She thinks it will up her social status if she swaggers around everywhere. Corner her, though, and she'll melt. She is anxious more than confident, embarrasses easily, and is quick to both anger and finding inappropriate circumstances hilarious. (Since she's embarrassed so often by herself, she thinks it's fine to laugh at other people's problems.)

Corrigan got her interested in Quidditch and she LOVES IT, and is so excited about making the team this year. She probably watched all the more agile/stunt type fliers people with hearts in her eyes during her research last year.

He's an arts and crafts boy. Primarily focuses on ceramics, but also makes costume prosthetics and weapons and accessories for LARP.

Like for instance he went to Hogwarts last year (where he was sorted into Slytherin), ill prepared for the experience and had A Bad Old Time.

The short run down is

everything anybody mentioned about Quentin in game is still canon. He did get bribed by Cameron to give him a leg up in the hunger games against Robin last year and he did lock Casey Patterson in a closet. And anything else I didn't notice.

he acts exactly how you'd expect him to act too

Quentin has all the stereotypes common to a Youngblood. He talks about conspiracies too much and a lot of those conspiracies are wildly improbable

he's that asshole every class has that will state exactly what everybody's thinking but are just too kind to voice. He's not too kind, he's got you fam

His obsession is not aliens. It's lost civilizations. He's got a lot of opinions on Atlantis and the sophomore class could probably collectively write a book about those opinions because he shamelessly overshares.

He ranks every thing by levels (for example, the entire sophomore class is at a level two trust with Quentin at best and they'll probably stay there until graduation) and he makes up his own statistics 87 percent of the time

Quentin doesn't trust anybody and super benign things make him extremely suspicious while he easily dismisses extremely suspicious things.

He says 'that's suspicious as fuck' so often it's either endearing or extremely annoying by now

he's not above stalking people he believe are suspicious as fuck

he thinks cats are suspicious as fuck too

Concept: Guided by fish guts, chatterbox seer finds "inspiration" everywhere. Bad screenplays follow.

• She's from St. Kilda, Nova Scotia! In Canada! It's a small and super Scottish town that serves as the Ministry's hub in the Maritimes.
• This is her first year at Gooseberry! She doesn't know a SOUL but Utah is NEW AND EXCITING and she's super looking forward to Gooseberry!!
• She's a seer! The Sight tends to run in her matriarchal line; her mother and her aunt are both seers. It's a family thing. & She practises ichtyomancy! It's divination by fish! The key is FISH GUTS! Yes, she brings her latest catch to the Divination Tower, and yes, she spends a lot of time on the docks. If you want to read WAY TOO MUCH about the process, I wrote WAY TOO MUCH about it here.
• Although she has a natural gift for divination, she's not stellar at it. It takes a lot of time and training! GUESS IT'S A GOOD THING SHE'S HERE!
• Paige LOVES TO TALK! To anybody, about anything, and like she's known you forever! She'll ask SO MANY QUESTIONS about you, too! She's a bit of a goof with a bad sense of humour. (Yes, I made a pun outlet. BE AFRAID, GOOSEBERRY.) Ultimately, she wants her friends to be happy, so she tries hard to do that! And she asks people questions, SO MANY QUESTIONS, even if she's never met them before. She's way too curious.

Camping school for gifted kids? Booooring. Camping school for gifted kids WITH POSSIBLE DEATH? Amazing.

She's Minerva McGonagall's great niece. She was bored of Hogwarts before she got there. She detests Quidditch. She is a Slytherin. Basically, if you have expectations about her based on her surname- which, back home, everyone does- she has gone out of her way to disappoint said expectations.

Her parents were very distracted with her siblings while she was growing up, and because she's been smart enough to mostly look after herself since early childhood they pretty much let her do it. Which is relevant in that she's damn good at getting away with shit without anyone ever realizing she got away with anything at all. She also doesn't listen to anyone with any sort of authority because why? Sorry, Azurcrest prefects. A Contrarian Is Violet.

That said, she's a very loyal friend if you manage to get close to her, and she will use her tricksy ways to protect and benefit anyone she cares about (and to hurt anyone who hurts her friends,) so there's that.

She's not a Stereotypical Evil Slytherin, but she is definitely a Slytherin, so in some ways her moral compass is pretty flexible. We'll see how that goes.

She loves playing pranks and messing with shit and enjoying herself. She did her research this summer and decided that Azurcrest is the place to be because it'll be way more fun than the other houses. Tra la. Don't let her get bored.

The most important thing about Austin is that he is your resident acoustic guitar kid. He brings his stupid guitar everywhere. He will be playing Wonderwall at the Grotto and practices constantly in his cabin. He's not as good at guitar, singing, or songwriting as he would like to be but he's going to do it constantly anyways. I'm sorry to his roommates but HE'S NOT!!

OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS:

• From Muscle Shoals, AL. And also Cedar Knob, KY, which is right over the border and just outside the Halo of Wealth that is Olympus, TN, but he'll mostly just tell you he's from Muscle Shoals. Because it's a music town. If you didn't know that before he started here, you know that know, because Austin will be sure to tell you it's a music town.
  
• He's Cameron Carney's cousin, and he is nowhere near as bright and sparkly and outgoing and fun, and also nowhere near as musically talented.
  
• He's kind of a brooding hipster douche. Not that he's mean, or has that much to brood on, it's just being moody and condescending is very important to the hipster aesthetic that Austin is very dedicated to. He can't believe you haven't heard of his favorite band (except of course you haven't, they're super underground, not mainstream like this garbage the rest of you guys listen to).
  
• He tries to hide his southern accent a lot, because saying you're from Muscle Shoals and sounding like you're from Alabama are two different levels of cool. He's not very successful at it. There are too many other southerners at this school, it trips him up.

• Hero is a Good Boy. Buttoned down, nice, polite, responsible, straight A's. He's the grandson of a famous Chinese Seer and has the Sight running through his veins. He's ambitious and he sees the prefect badge as his first step one day becoming MACUSA president. You may know him as the former best friend of the Amortentia ringleader—Hero was the one who turned him in.


• This is all a pack of lies. Except for the ambitious part, that's 100% true. He's actually a muggleborn who definitely does not have the Sight. It was his idea to mix Amortentia into tea and lie to upperclassmen. But look, Hero's doing his best to bury all this. He's a nice boy. He'd never do anything wrong! He's a 15-year-old already conducting his life like a dishonest politician manipulating his image to win votes.


• As much as he tries to seem ~nice and inoffensive~, he's got a real dramatic streak. You'll get a taste of this either in LARP (which he's joined this year in hopes of impressing the woman of his dreams, Ursula de Luca), Drama, or the official QUIDDITCH COMMENTARY. Not even Ebonhide is safe from speculation of how in-fighting and/or unresolved sexual tension between the captains is TEARING THEM APART. I mean, house pride, go Bears!

Possible lines:

• Ebonsophs: Meet your new dadfriend. He wants you all to STOP MAKING HIM LOOK BAD stay safe and out of trouble. Please. Please. If you have a body to bury, Hero will grab a shovel and lie for you. Look at what a GOOD JOB he and Pear are doing, Ms. Rhee!!! What angels!!!


• Prefects: We don't have very many soph prefects but he definitely wants to be ~friends~. (Please read this in the most passive-aggressive way possible. He sees you as his chief rivals. Boys in particular, he is not letting any of you take Head Boy from him.) OLDER PREFECTS, he's taking your lead. He already admires the Ebonhide seniors. You're his role models. Please tell him he's doing a good job. ;_;


• Sophs in general???: Especially those who are inexplicably pals with Archie Rose, Hero's de facto best friend after he stabbed his last one in the back. Hey ladies, please stop encouraging Archie to stalk people. Hero is going to attempt to be so :) very :) nice :) to all of you, but there's something kind of forced about it, especially if he thinks you are a) dumb or b) potentially better than him which cannot stand. OK, I keep saying I am going to put this together and it's not pretty but.. whatever. This is a list of IC flavor roles within Event Committee and what I kind of imagine they do and does not imply any OOC responsibility to actually perform the assigned tasks. It's just stuff for your kids to yammer about. Ursula's goal is to build a strong ~team~, but if this turns into a bunch of mini-dictators instead, I will not be complaining. I am also giving everyone silly garbage titles in Ursula's corporate org chart because I can.

CEO & President: Attend club meetings, represent the interests of their class, lead activities and oversee club funding, collaborate with class representatives and manage department heads, and meet with the dictatorship watchdog club sponsor to discuss activities. This role is taken by Ursula.
EVP, Junior Class Representative: Attend club meetings, represent the interests of their class, and collaborate with the club president. In the president's absence, the EVP will run club meetings. This role is taken by Todd.
SVP, Sophomore Class Representative: Get bossed around a lot by upperclassmen while plotting your future rule. Attend club meetings, represent the interests of their class, and collaborate with the club president. This role is open.

VP of Refreshments: Coordinate with house elves or other students to provide food and drink. Don't forget alternative dietary needs! This role is open.
VP of Entertainment: Make the fun happen. Provide event-themed games and sub-activities such as karaoke, kissing booths, etc. School bands are expected to be invited to perform during dances. This role is open, but I wanted to offer it to Cameron first.
VP of Logistics: Scout out and secure event locations. Oversee Liason with delivery freshmen. This role is open.

I have a preference for roles to be given to characters who don't have a lot of other special things going on, but the club isn't THAT big either, so. I will get an actual EC dropbox properly setup before Sept 1 to centralize OOC brainstorming or whatever, BUT ANYWAY.
