HOW THIS WORKS

• In preparation for going to Hogwarts for the game against their team, please sign up which of your characters will be going on the week long trip.


• You may have four characters go to Hogwarts, including Quidditch players and cheerleaders. This is so that everyone can have more elbow room during the plot.


• For this event, we can't accept any roommate requests because...


• You characters are going to be sorted into Hogwarts houses. It turns out that Hogwarts' guest wing has a nasty doxy infestation, and the best alternative is to simply allow the visiting students to stay in spare rooms in various House wings.


• The decision you make here is final. List one house only. It doesn't matter if your kid's a Slytherdor or a Ravenpuff, they can only stay in one house, so pick one house.


• However, it's very possible that one character will be chosen to be the first Hatstall in 46 years. If you think this should be your character, explain why they might stump the Sorting Hat.


• All other sortings will take three minutes or less. If we don't get a character who has a well-reasoned argument why their character would qualify, we might not pick anyone. Hatstalls are extremely rare!


• There will indeed be a sorting ceremony the day they arrive, and you'll have a chance to play out scenes/reactions. Students will quickly learn that Hogwarts cares waaaaaay more about their own inter-house rivalries than some little American school. You're a Slytherin before you're a Caopperwhatsit.


• You have until Saturday, May 3rd at 11:59 PM MT.

He had an absolutely terrible time in Slytherin, was bullied and isolated and told he didn't fit in, so he's going to put up a fuss if the hat wants to put him back in there. He'd much rather go to Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, personally.

Ira's obviously very forward, blunt, and has some of those Gryffindor headstrong and (let's face it!) quite stupid tendencies. But if you really break down his motivations and reasoning, it's all about taking logical steps, and he's still more dedicated to learning than he REALLY is to chivlary or whatever. So he's definitely divided but I think the hat could make up its mind not that slowly.

Do you think they might be a Hatstall?: SURE. Okay. So, he definitely would not have been anything other than a shitty Hufflepuff garbage boy with some Ravenclaw leanings until this year. Hell, until the last three months. But the fact that this sorting is happening now, specifically, is what throws things completely out of whack, because he's growing up and his personality and priorities are starting to change. The hat's going to see a lot of turmoil swirling around in his head. Lucas has strong traits from Hufflepuff, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, and he's not sure which ones he actually values, at this point.
Anything else: I predict that Essie and Lucas are going to immediately get in a fight in the Gryffindor common room which will seal their rightful place in that house forever.

Rosy

There's always been a bit of a duality to Rosy. She's bold, she's brave, she's a protective lioness who will rip heads off for those around her, she's even a Leo. She is a big dumb Gryffindor. But she's also underhanded, she'll cheat at literally any game you put in front of her, she's cunning and ambitious and will do anything to win; she's exactly the sort Slytherin would love to have in their ranks.

So it comes down to what Rosy values most, and how she sees herself, and that's a battle she's been fighting for several years. Had she been sorted at eleven, she would have gone into Slytherin without a question, and she would have been molded into something even more terrifying and fierce. But around high school, she started trying to change herself, opting to develop her Ribbonfin heart over her Coppertale drive, and the question that has been slowly eating away at her for years is: is she hurting herself by trying to deny her true nature?

Slytherin could have made her one hardcore motherfucker, someone who embraces even the darker sides of their personality.

Gryffindor appreciates the warrior, the strong who protects the sweet, and that's who Rosy wants to be. She just has a hard time admitting that she's not trying to be anything that isn't true to her own nature, she just has a different nature than she thinks.

Anything else: She also has streaks of Ravenclaw (pedantic bitch) and Hufflepuff (loyal to a self-sacrificing fault), but the Gryffindor/Slytherin divide is #iconic.

Do you think they might be a Hatstall?: I do actually think he could be a hatstall because he sure had me stumped. Basil's intelligence is unquestioned, and if I was able to play him into the future, I would see his future being in the creation of new spells and/or potions if he ever got over his unconscious dislike of the latter subject because of his mother. But, that is not his only trait, even if, as a Ravenclaw myself, I sometimes can struggle at not writing uber-intelligent characters who end up shunning society for knowledge... Basil is also extremely people-oriented. It's been coded into him by his family since he could first waddle out and ease the stress of wedding goers by looking cute.

Basil is willing to give up his own ambitions for the sake of his friends and family, which I do consider a big Hufflepuff trait (prioritizing family over personal gain, that is). Again, if I was able to write into the future, Basil would eventually deal with the sense of guilt and shame he has over wanting to pursue a life immersed in magic, the total opposite of what he was raised to do. He's also been extremely hurt by his family's relatively secretive nature about his mother, leading to the aforementioned unconscious aversion to potions because that was her wheelhouse and betrayal from his family, well. That hurts. Also extremely hurtful was the betrayal of his muggle friends, leading to a shift in his personal presentation, if not his core personality.

So I could see the Sorting Hat seeing these two very strong driving forces in Basil's life - his desire to learn All The Things and his potential if he was let loose on the wizarding world to be a great backbone to magickind and his loyalty to a fault to his familial ideals and the desire to put others' needs before his own - and easily see the future strife set up for Basil as he continues to learn at Gooseberry. And this could lead to a very interesting conversation that ends with Basil being aware early on that at the end of the day, unless his family chooses to change for him (and that is the ultimate goal for all this, though he doesn't know that and strongly believes they would never accept him if he joined the wizarding world properly), that he is going to have to make a choice. To continue to learn and grow as a wizard and potentially make a difference... or go back home to his family, whom he does love very much, and probably end up inheriting the barn and the business as his moms grow old and depend on him for their care. A future he'd always seen, but now with something so much more, if he can turn his back on what he always held dear.

And the fact that he's ultimately sorted into Ravenclaw does give a clue as to the path he will choose. Luckily! When he does finally confront his family, he learns that they want him to be more than the wedding business and have been working through their own biases as well, so he doesn't have to be ostracized. But that's like... senior year level stuff. He doesn't know it now.
Anything else: I'm sorry for the word vomit. Is it terribly obvious I've thought through this way more than I need to for a character who won't exist in like two months? Because I have thought about it. A little too much. ;A;
