CONFERENCE APPROVALS

If you plan on having your character visited by family, you must fill out this form by Thursday, January 25. If you fail to do this, you can't have any family members show up at the event!

Feel free to use this post to plot and discuss amongst yourselves as well.

Please keep the following rules in mind:

You may have up to three individuals visit your character.

They must all be legally related to your character. Parents, legal guardians, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, step-parents and step-siblings are all allowed. Family friends are not.

They will be staying two nights at Gooseberry. Each family unit gets one room to share.

Siblings don't need to both fill this out, but you may for plotting purposes.

You may request graduates to cameo, assuming they're related to your character. Ask the person who played the graduate last year before you fill out the form.

Graduates who cameo will be temporarily added back into the comm so they may participate in any IC/OOCs during their stay. HOWEVER, they may not comment on any journal entries.

Your characters' family will receive feedback from all of their teachers... but we're not going to write it out. If you have any specific questions or needs about a teacher's input, we'll try to help you.

A mod will comment to you, giving you approval or asking for adjustments or clarification.

Things you will need mod involvement for, in order to account for NPC reactions and pacing:
- Injuries or other health emergencies.
- Any rule breaking by family members.
- Incidents of abuse.
- Violent or especially loud arguments that might raise the concern of staff.

General Plan: I plan for Quentin and Robin to interact for the first time on screen. That’s my main plan. Doc will be gruff and intimidating to any of his friends brave enough to meet him. He’s probably gonna introduce Miguel to his mom. But Quentin is doing fairly well academically and less than stellar in the behavior department.
Anything else?: I’m positive an actual plan will develop, but nothing major that will require any type of mod approval.

General Plan: Calvin's still the apple of his parents' eye, the good child, their glowing success. This year at Gooseberry things are better than ever, since Calvin's behavioural problems have evaporated, and he's in a million extracurriculars. He's even on the Quidditch team! Calvin wants to bask in their praise, and also reconnect with his beloved older brother, Dimi. They're going to pick on one another a lot. The only real drama will probably be that Calvin's parents won't like Micah. He's the first boyfriend and not "just a good friend" that they've met, and he's not... exactly what they imagined for their perfect child. They would rather him be with a Cash or a Ferdie, or hell even a Jeffy.

Character: Hazel Keating

Family: Daisy and Felix Keating, her parents, and Lief Ellis, her uncle.

General Plan: Nothing overly major, much like last year - she'll show them around, show them off to her friends, and generally just be happy to have her family with her. She'll try to drag her uncle out onto the ice to shoot a few pucks with her. He will 100% refuse. Hazel's biggest goal is to prove to her uncle that Gooseberry is DEFINITELY SAFE.

General Plan: I want Wilde's ma to add pressure to pressure, basically. She'll be annoyed with Wilde for spending so much time hanging out in the garden with not much of a senior project or even a TA-ship to show for it, snipe at him for devoting too much time to Quidditch and other classes when he knows this is his Best Talent, and compare him a bit to Thomas (who, his senior year, was probably fielding job offers at this point etc). It could be a noticeable argument if that would be interesting, but maybe also just... a horrible talk. And a horrible time.

General Plan: Typical embarrassing clueless parents stuff. They're both extremely curious and a still slightly boggled by this whole wizard thing. Ernie wants to know why Lucas isn't in this "pre-healer studies" program they've got going on at Gooseberry. Alice wants to know where she can get a ghost for the house. They're both going to be low key elated that Lucas is giving therapy an honest go, again. A good, if mortifying, visit.

General Plan: Nia's father has never come to Gooseberry before, so this is a huge deal for her. She's super excited to show him around and introduce him to her friends because she adores her father. He's going to be totally mind blown by all this rich people shit. He probably does landscaping for a handful of the parents of students who go here. Also, he might gently push for her to relax a little on the intense need to focus on something practical and take music more seriously as a career option, after the talent show.

Character: Riley Mae Stamper

Family: Yesenia Puig (mom), Joe Stamper (dad), Dylan Stamper (surprisingly not-trashy sister)

General Plan: Riley's mom will push her toward having any kind of a direction after school, especially if she wants to get the fuck out of Alaska. Riley will probably tell her she's going to join the circus. And at least that is a direction, which is technically what she was asking for.
Anything else?: Please just scrape by and graduate, Riley, your mother deserves the rest.

General Plan: Rhia is determined to embarrass the crap out of her darling baby brother and ask a lot of questions about Essie. Questions Jeffy is NOT PREPARED TO ANSWER AHHH. His mother is going to be VERY PROUD of how he's doing as a TA, while his dad will be not super pleased with how much time and energy Jeffy has been spending on Quidditch. They might bribe him with finally getting a letterman jacket if he maintains his 4.0 because my good good boy deserves a letterman jacket :c

Character: Todd Skynner
House/Year: Coppertale Junior
Family: Martin Skynner (father), Lori Inoue (mother), Kimberley Skynner (sister).
General Plan: The Skynners are maybe the least dramatic family in the world. His parents are befuddled but supportive of his magical education. His dad is a little scatterbrained but his mom is good with checking up with teachers to make sure he's doing well socially and academically. I think it would be fair for his complaints of bullying to come up w/ his parents, which might result in them being a little more hoverparenty with him for the rest of the year, but he... could use that support, so whatever.

His parents come to PTC regularly! Kimmy has never visited before, and she's a nomaj, so Todd is VERY excited to show her his weird magic school. He'll spend most of the weekend being like "KIMMY LOOK AT THE LAKE MONSTER".

Anything else?: I imagine Kimmy as Hayley Kiyoko from her CSI days but it's not too late for someone to use her very cute face as an actual character

Character: Zachary Zheng

Family: His mom, Patricia Zheng

General Plan: My good boy is Exceeding Expectations!!! To be fair, that's in part because the expectations were extremely low. 8) His family loves him, but they also lite flavour find him confusing? They're proud of what a voracious reader he is, but everyone is pretty aware that they don't have much to offer him at home wrt academics, so they're very grateful for the opportunity GBHS provides. Mama Zheng will want to hear that Zach is doing well and not causing trouble, and if she gets the affirmative on that, she won't ask too many questions. Also, wow, this school is Fancy and A Lot!!!
Anything else?: Zach's mom might do that thing where she pretends to be bougie to fit in, but actually, she has no idea what she's saying, and it's very uncomfortable for everyone. But Zach won't care, so it's nbd.

Character: Ariadne Flint

Family: Nicodemus Flint (brother/legal guardian).
General Plan: Nico is kind of... floundering to be a good guardian to his sister, because he's barely 20 himself and not used to be responsible for another human being. Mrs. Rhee reached out to him last year and tried to get him to come in lieu of their parents, and unfortunately he couldn't make it. But he loves Ari very much and is bending over backwards to miss work and attend PTCs. Ari's secretly very pleased that he's coming, and is trying extra hard in class this month so she'll get good feedback. She's most excited for him to meet Mr. Merrill since he's been helping her with the school paper and her brother is a journalist.

As far as feedback goes, she does skip OE sometimes so I imagine that'd come up. She still has some behavioral issues but I think for the most part these have been flying under the staff radar? Besides those things, she's actually been a fairly exemplary student this year and her grades are way up from what they were this time last year.

Anything else?: Ari's trying to decide whether or not she should tell her brother about Jade so we'll see how that goes

Character: Madison Ives

Family: Both parents.

General Plan: Mads is a good girl. Her parents are proud of her. No issues there! No issues anywhere! ... Except that they think she's "dating" Ira, thanks to a visit with him over break and their date to Cotillion. Madison's main mission now is to Maintain the Charade.

Family: Miriam and Ava and Elias Ashworth

General Plan: Miriam and Ava will be a little surprised at the fact that Ira's disciplinary record isn't quite as squeaky clean as he'd let on. They're going to worry about that to the teachers, but they can't complain too much, he's still getting perfect grades. Otherwise, Ira's kind of excited to show his family off and will do so to alll of his friends. He can't wait for them to meet Elias, his 7-month younger brother who he adores, and is basically like, Ira Plus. Elias will probably fall in love with Gooseberry and there will be some Talks whether it's a good idea for him to go. But it'll be an overall pleasant visit. Stay tuned for the next chapter of the Pretzel Boy Saga.
Anything else?: Ira's moms need to meet the Morales-Tran moms officially and be best mom friends by accident, just like their children.

Character: Tobias Rush
House/Year: Ribbonfin Soph
Family: Toby's g-ma and g-pa!!! Connie and Bill Harkin, who were surrogate mom and dad for Toby.
Graduate Cameo?: N/A
General Plan: Presumably, Tobias' teachers will be like, "He's, uhhh, doing........... alright......... in class. Anyway, he made the sports team." and that's fine with his family. He might get a light scolding about his extremely mediocre performance, but frankly, the family isn't very academically oriented (both Toby's parents are enlisted in the military), and they're more than happy to see him in sports. Also, they'll be distracted by two issues: 1. The Harkin's are a prototypical middle America no maj family, and this school is going to blow their fucking minds, and 2. Toby's grandmother is having significant health issues, and it's a bummer. I think she'll have aged a lot in the few months he's been gone, which is always hard to see.
Anything else?: He's gonna have to take a sadness walk, probably.

General Plan: Not much! Cole didn't go home at Christmas because of his brother's constant fighting with their step-mom, so Nate's mostly coming to check on Cole and maybe have a heart-to-heart about FAMILY and whatnot. Nate will promise to stop picking fights, Cole will get a little pick-me-up, and all will be well apart from a little big brotherly fretting.
Anything else?: Scene with Hazel, Rin? YOU KNOW WHY.

Character: Lachlan Galbraith

Family: Erna Galbraith - Mother, Tadg Galbraith - Older Brother, Maisie Galbraith - Younger Sister

General Plan: Lachlan's parents have been Very Uneasy about magic for a long time but he seems to have made some Nice Magical Friends at Gooseberry and his siblings are absurdly curious about the magical world, so this seems like a good way to encourage Lachlan and show his siblings a bit of the magical world in a safe environment. Maybe. Lachlan will be an anxious mess but will focus almost entirely on showing his mother HOW GOOD HE IS DOING and how definitely not insane magical school is. What could go wrong? His siblings will mostly be wandering around on their own and gaping at things. Maisie wants to pet that unicorn more than anyone can possibly understand.
Anything else?: Lachlan is begging you guys not to freak out his mother. But feel free to freak out his mother.

General Plan: The Laceys are here to check in on their kids! They will be helicopter parents when they aren't talking to the staff about outstanding Pandora and less-than-outstanding Heathcliff. Education is just about the most important thing in the world to them so they will take this seriously! They are very well-meaning but maybe a bit much. For Cliff, at least.
Anything else?: Heathcliff wants to crawl into a hole and die. Someone let him know if you find a big enough hole.

Character: Jaime Castillo
House/Year: Azurcrest Senior
Family: His step-mother, Alejandra, his step-sister Ariela, and his half-brother Agustin.
Graduate Cameo?: Nope!
General Plan: Jaime is going to be a little awkward with his step-mother as usual, and definitely awkward with his step-sister since they've never been particularly close... but oh man, he's going to spend as much time with his little brother as possible. It'll be a pretty uneventful visit, but Ariela will at least try to be a little kinder to Jaime than she normally would be, just because she's gotten some space now that she's away at college most of the time. He's been doing a lot better in school and working very hard as a captain, so his teachers probably have a lot better things to say about him this year as compared to last.
Anything else?: Jaime will happily collect and babysit younger siblings honestly, he's going to be so happy.

General Plan: Rupert is going to be incredibly attentive of his family members the entire PTC - his father is flighty and loud, which Rupert thinks needs mitigation, but he's also craving his approval, so trying to keep his father's attention will be a constant in this visit. Reggie, a somewhat conniving young woman that encourages Rupert to be mistrustful of others, will be flitting around being social and occasionally suggesting to her little brother who she thinks he should or shouldn't be friends with. At least his grades are good?

Character: Essie Morales-Tran

General Plan: No real plan, currently. Essie's a smart kid who doesn't apply herself in most cases and has behavioral issues and that's hardly news to any of her family. If Mina attends and wants to grill her teachers: Essie's academic performance IS improving compared to last year, largely due to her motivation to do a good job as Mr. Oakes' TA, maintain Quidditch eligibility and be allowed to continue with Animagus Studies, but she's hardly a straight A student and still throws books off the cliff more than she ought to. :|a
Anything else?: Post-vacation update: I am BEAT. So, I think the plan is basically as above. Nothing earth shattering. But a Morales-Tran scene will hopefully occur!

General Plan: Nisha is expecting her mother but not her brother. They're both showing up. Annie's predominant concerns are if Nisha is is passing and whether or not she's doing anything to embarrass the family. Xavier's preoccupied with Nisha's happiness and wanting to meet her friends to see who she's hanging out with. They both have concerns about her safety here at Gooseberry. Nisha has some obvious behavioral problems, but her grades are impeccable and threatening quidditch has been a good way to rein her in a little.

So, plans, vaguely, are that Ankita and Xavier are going to butt heads. But, it's in a very politician/Ribbonfin-y way, so no yelling. Just a lot of discomfort. Nisha, however, is going to have a very hard time coping with her mother's constant criticism/judgment/suspicion while at school, and aside from avoiding her at all costs, is probably going to wind up hiding somewhere having a meltdown. She's going to be underfoot with Zav a lot while he's here. Ankita may also leave a day early because she's a Busy Lady. Nisha's going to end ptc wanting Kaspar Barringer to adopt her. :')

In the lead up to ptc, Nisha's stress levels are spiking and it's obvious, but that can probably be attributed to team tryouts for now. Still, her high strung behavior is going to be obvious to the faculty. Distracted, tense, quiet, etc. And on her best goddamn behavior, because she doesn't want any teachers to have reason to talk to her mother about acting out or getting in trouble.

General Plan: Jing-Mei will likely be more interested in what the MACUSA agents are doing than what her daughter is up to. She will give a stern look to anyone sporting No-Maj tech, and probably won't smile much the whole time she is there, except at Junie now and then. They will go for a run together at least one morning.

General Plan: Eve has hardcore mixed feelings about PTC, partially because she worries she isn’t living up to her potential and it shows and also partially because she hyped Gooseberry up so much with her repeated attempts to get in and what if that doesn’t be live up to the hype for her parents? What if he notices that she’s struggling a little bit here? But also, she misses her dad and really wants to see him, but she can’t do disappointment or pity from him and she’s terrified he might catch on and feel one of those emotions. But also her father was a famed Quidditch player that gambled himself into poverty and what if one of these assholes mentions that to his face?
Anything else?: I have no pb for her Father tho
