i.... actually pronounce it differently depending on what form it takes. like the standalone candies vs what you'd find as an ingredient in a bigger thing like a chocolate bar

That's me with route. Specific ones (Route 66) rhyme are root, but when I'm talking about the path I plan to take somewhere, it rhymes with out.

yeah if it's a famous name where the locals pronounce it a certain way (Route 66 = Root 66) then i'll pronounce it how the locals pronounce it. but if we're talking about a bus route or something then it's "rowt"

i only do rowt if something's being routed as a verb, like a wireless router or traffic getting rerouted

i say "aahnt" if it's in front of someone's name and "ant" for the general concept of an aunt

when i was little, i used to pronounce aunt as "ain't" but i think i picked that up from my dad (who's from southern louisiana) because i've never heard anyone else say it that way.

i almost exclusively use "ant" unless someone else is referring to their aunt/themselves as ahhnt, then i'll use ahhnt uniquely for them.

i also used to call ink pins "ain't pins" because my dad pronounced it similarly (aink pins) but that's just me being a dumb kid

fuck i meant pen***

but we pronounce the e like an i. so instead of pehn it's pin. we call them "ink pens" even though... i don't know why we have to say the "ink" part because pens obviously use ink

i say car-a-mel and i'm wondering if it's because in canada we have caramilk (care-a-milk) chocolate bars, so the middle "a" is always emphasized?
