when i was little, i used to pronounce aunt as "ain't" but i think i picked that up from my dad (who's from southern louisiana) because i've never heard anyone else say it that way.

i almost exclusively use "ant" unless someone else is referring to their aunt/themselves as ahhnt, then i'll use ahhnt uniquely for them.

i also used to call ink pins "ain't pins" because my dad pronounced it similarly (aink pins) but that's just me being a dumb kid

fuck i meant pen***

but we pronounce the e like an i. so instead of pehn it's pin. we call them "ink pens" even though... i don't know why we have to say the "ink" part because pens obviously use ink

Maybe because a lot of people pronounce pin and pen the same? Like you don't wanna ask for a pen and get no safety pin

TRUE, TRUE. i've been asked for a pin before and thought they meant pen. (especially when i used to work in the theatre's costume workshop, because we were all southern and all pronounced pin/pen the same.) but people from other regions definitely sound out the "e" in pen.

i googled "ink pen" and... it's not what i expected??? i refer to ballpoint pens as ink pens but google images shows a fountain pen (the one with the lil quill tip) as an ink pen. is my whole life a web of lies?

no, that's for the rich folk who don't pronounce pen and pin. pen/pin people buy our ink pens ink a bulk pack from walmart.
