goose_ooc | COLLABORATION(?): POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS

During downtime a few of us discussed Healer training programs (where they might be, when acceptances come out, blah blah blah). We made a Google Doc but never really took it anywhere, and last night I went back and made the doc into a monster. I'm giving everyone access to said doc, and I have two ~hopes~ for what it can BE and DO for ME and YOU:

Provide a list of established IC post-secondary programs/schools we've made up
Help flesh out IC discussions about where seniors are torn between moving to, etc.

AS WITH ALL MY HARE-BRAINED GOOSEBERRY PROJECTS, THIS IS BY NO MEANS SOMETHING ANYONE HAS TO USE, REFER TO, OR PARTICIPATE IN. Do your own thing! Ignore this post if you want! It's totally cool~

OK. SO. I took the original doc and made up 12 Healer training programs in Canada and the USA based loosely on real med schools. Most of them are part of larger wizarding schools that are affiliated with Muggle colleges. "Affiliated" might mean historically (read: loosely) or that the maj and nomaj programs have some actual partnership.

Right now it's only got Healing programs because that's how it started, but the document is not exclusive to Healing! It's for any post-Gooseberry program and/or school! This includes but is not limited to programs for: Aurors, Healers, Potioneers, Magizoologists, Artificists, and Curse-Breakers.

If you made up a program and/or school that characters can refer to IC, add it to the doc! This link takes you to the editable version of the Google Document.
If you want to brainstorm some programs for your character(s) to discuss, feel free to do so in the comments!
I'm not going through the comments to add new schools/etc., so if you come up with something and you want it added you've got to do it yourself ♥

Hopefully I made this more or less clear. :| I have no idea because my brain's a jumble today. If there's anything I can clear up, just ask!!!

Buuut yes I have always envisioned one or only a couple actual training grounds and then they just get assigned everywhere/actual jobs after training?
But this could be wrong.

Maybe there's between one and three training grounds throughout the country? (Just for the US, I imagine Canada and Mexico and all the other countries might want to train their own Aurors?)

i honestly feel that middle-of-the-desert vibe for magic police school

I remember being out on hwy 50 and there were signs about military testing that were basically like, you don't see a thing, don't tell anyone you saw anything, go away.

And I've basically decided military secrets = MAGIC

how many aurors... like... are there in north america? is it a small profession, or are there a lot? (how many dark wizards are there?!) bc there are sooo many aspirational aurors at gooseberry. i always wonder if there are super loads of aurors in the USA, or if training is so intense that 50-75% drop and/or fail out.

(this is all inconsequential for me as i don't have an auror baby i just think about it a lot)

I figure it is v FBI in that there probably aren't... a terrible many and it's still pretty elite? But North America is a pretty big place. And maybe in not active war time they do other things. Like bigger crimes. I'm guessing here obviously but yes.
And I figure there is a p big fail rate but ALSO Gooseberry is a smart kid school so maybe it would make sense for them to have a high concentration of Auror wannabes.

I've been thinking of them as FBI agents too but do they also have a magical police force?? are aurors their only law enforcement officials?

in fantastic beasts Romantic Female Lead took Eddie Redmayne in for having magic creatures which is not precisely dark wizardry

Maybe this is just rp error but I always thought hitwizards handled like ordinary crime like petty theft and such and Aurors were more specialized.
I cannot tell you if I first read that in a legit source though oops

i thought hitwizards were... government assassins... but i realize now thats silly

i thought hitwizards were like beefed up cops/SWAT team that still serves the role of "cop" in the wizarding world but they're more trained and skilled than no-maj cops because... wizards. anddd i thought aurors were The Big Guns like... fbi meets cia depending on the assignment. hitwizards are more brute force in the sense that their assignments are pretty direct and to-the-point whereas aurors are more specialized and are used for situations that require more skill, knowledge, secrecy, and delicacy?
