Ms. Petrichor calls Lucas Kowalski to her office, and tells him that she did some research on the photograph he found. They're Robert and Charles Ingall, father and son, two residents of the nearby former mining town. Unfortunately, records of them are spotty, but Robert disappears from the ledger of miners some time after the sickness that hit the town and killed most of the children.
Natalie Prince is walking through an empty hall when they hear voices from behind a locked door. It almost sounds like Webster Knox and Cameron Carney, and they're talking about Tally. Nothing they have to say is kind. If confronted, the would-be gossips have no memory of the conversation. So who did they hear if not them?
Late in the evening, Cole Moss sees a black cat wandering around their campsite. It's moving strangely, as though ill. When they call to it, the cat stops. It's almost too still. As Cole takes a step forward, the back of the cat's head splits, revealing an eye. Then another. And another. The eyes stare at the student for a second, and then the unnatural animal takes off into the forest and disappears.
Interhouse Snowball Fight. Sylvester Stoker calls all challengers to the fields outside Coppertale for a house vs. house showdown!
Gooseberry Team (both Quidditch and Cheer) tryouts are today! Hopeful athletes could earn a coveted spot on the school team, which will be going up against Ilvermorny and Hogwarts. As an extra incentive, the game against Hogwarts will be held in Scotland, with the students staying in the famous castle. It's rumored that Harry Potter himself will be in attendance.
-
Spots on the school teams are very limited, and factors like activity, personal investment in Quidditch/Cheer and how it will serve your character's development will be taken into consideration. Please fill out this form in addition to taking part in the tryout IC/OOC that will be posted on this day.
🔮 Casey Patterson spots a familiar, funny little plant on the side of the trail, and recognizes it as last year's magical mistletoe. Whether they love to smooch or were hoping to cause some chaos and miss classes, Casey sneaks the plant into the lodge. With the help of a little magical miracle-gro, the lodge is soon infested once again. (Predicted by Hieronymus)
-
By lunch, mistletoe has sprouted all over the Lodge. Anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground.
-
The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient.
-
This time, Mr. Hightower knows what to do, and with the help of Jonathan Wilde, they get the situation under control before curfew.
🎂 Happy birthday, Madison Ives!
Dinah Dixon finds a lost prefect badge in the snow. It looks old, but it still works to get access to the sauna! Just be careful not to get caught by, well, anyone.
-
During TA hours, a freshman who failed a quiz becomes angry with Lachlan Galbraith and says some very mean things. Before Lachlan can respond, Ms. Vector appears behind him and gives the freshman a severe tongue lashing, as well as detention.
🎂 Happy birthday, Mackenzie Prince!
-
Mr. Elmasry admits to Adeline Foster-Hayes that he thinks both Mr. Covington and Dr. Perry might be flirting with him, but he's not sure what to do about it, or who to choose. After things went sour with his high school sweetheart, Dave, he's reluctant to date. Does she have any advice to give him?
-
While Estella Morales-Tran is helping Mr. Oakes with one of his projects, the two geniuses accidentally trigger a minor explosion in the Artificing shed. Observers witness them running from the shed screaming, with Mr. Oakes' work apron on fire. Essie puts him out with a fire extinguisher, and no lasting damage is done.
Jade Otterwell is doing some last minute practice for their part in the winter play, when they're interrupted by a horrible sight. A girl falls from the rafters nearly on top of them. Jade barely has time to scream before the apparition is gone.
Grotto Party!
-
There will be games of Spin the Bottle and Seven Minutes in Heaven. If your character would like to participate, SIGN UP HERE.
-
Rosemary Stoker has a foggy memory of kissing Casey Patterson behind the Grotto building. Maybe they were just drunk, though, because no one else remembers it, including the person they kissed.
While hanging out in the atrium, Ennis Harper sees a couple people sneaking around outside the windows. It's Chloe Shepherd and Riley Stamper, and it's clear they're engaged in some romantic tryst. Later, the accused lovebirds claim it wasn't them.
Martin Luther King Day. No classes.
-
Samantha Sweeney enjoys the time off by getting day drunk, and end up vomiting on Mr. Merrill's shoes. While he's going to miss those loafers, he gives the student a choice: lose points and get detention, or endure a lecture about drinking. Mr. Merrill hints that his mother might have a drinking problem, and he's clearly worried about his students.
-
Sebastien Lacroix is out after dark when they see the outline of a little girl rummaging around in a hollow stump. It's Pearl, one of the ghosts. She says everything in the log is "useless junk", and they can take it. Inside, the student finds a $100 bill in Muggle currency, a headless Barbie doll, and a very risque copy of Playgirl magazine from the early 2000's.
-
Mrs. O'Hare proudly announces that she has a special treat for Magizoology students. It's Dragon Appreciation Day, and she has some contacts with a Wyoming dragon reserve. Magizoology students, regardless of year, attend a special lesson on Wyoming Ringtails, a slim, silvery species of dragons with a mellow demeanor. For the day, Gooseberry is the host to a breeding pair and their hatchlings. The lecture focuses heavily on their conservation, and non-Magizoology students can request to attend the lesson as well, instead of normal classes. Kurt Wolfhart, Fern Mufferaw and Lilika Ignacz are called up to participate in a demonstration where they're taught how to handle the hatchlings and adults. After class, the reserve representative talks to the three of them about internship opportunities this summer.
Someone left graffiti on Ulysses Quayle's cabin by their window, which reads "ULYSSES IS A LOSER VIRGIN." Rude. Mr. Covington helps them clean it up.
-
A freshman delivers a bundle of flowers from the greenhouse to Sofia Delgado, insisting that Madison Ives sent it. However, Madison definitely didn't do anything of the sort. Why are the younger years so obsessed with matchmaking?
-
🔮 Gweneth Popplestone dozed off in the lodge, and wakes up with a start to find out they're all alone in the atrium and all the lights have been turned off. Wait, no, not alone. No one's ever alone here. There's someone on the upper landing, staring down at them. "Children should be in bed. In bed," it tells her in an inhuman voice. "I won't lose another one. Go. Go. Go." It shuffles off without saying anything more, leaving no sign of its presence. (Predicted by Lilika)
-
Avery Davenport organizes a special event this afternoon after regular practices: a series of games where the cheerleaders play Quidditch, and the Quidditch players cheer! (If you take this spot, you should make an IC/OOC with RNG results, and create teams beforehand!)
-
Hazel Keating is in the bathroom alone, washing their face in the sink. They splash their face with water and look up into the mirror only to realize their reflection hasn't been moving, only staring at them, apparently frozen. As soon as this occurs to Hazel, their reflection is normal again, moving just like it should. Was it their imagination...?
Tuesday North wants to introduce the school to the long-honored tradition of broom rodeos, which she competes in regularly when school's not in session. Normally, these are day-long events with cowboys and otherwise performing death-defying feats high in the air to win a cash prize and a cowboy hat. In this case, there will be THREE events: a lasso contest, where students will have to rope a charmed-moving piece of furniture while on brooms, "barrel racing" around the goal posts, and a stunt flying basics lesson with Tuesday. The race and the lasso contest will be RNG-ed. Whoever has the highest combined score wins the day, a self-tipping cowboy hat, and bragging rights!
🎂 Happy birthday, Reid Wainwright!
-
Rupert Wick has to mediate between two freshman arguing violently about whether Ebonhide or Coppertale is the better team. They wind up with a bloody nose for the trouble, after the Coppertale student throws a mean right hook that was meant for their rival.
-
Ms. Thrussell tells Natalie Prince a tale about how she and her husband once robbed a bank in the 1970s. It's very glamorous and romantic, but possibly a complete lie. She encourages Natalie to go out and have an adventure, and if she breaks the law, be careful about covering her tracks.
🎂 Happy birthday, Jade Otterwell!
-
It's National Pie Day, so pies are available for dessert tonight. Corrigan Bailey eats so much pie they end up ill, but Mr. Merrill is thoroughly impressed even as he escorts them to the staff restroom to throw up.
-
Ennis Harper is going up to the Divination tower, but he hears voices above as he approaches. While his eavesdropping might not be intentional, it sounds like Mr. Chettri and Ms. Whittle are discussing getting engaged.
Late in the evening, Noel Finnigan-Thomas is practicing in the Music Room when they notice a girl dancing right outside, to the tune of their playing. Only... it's freezing outside, and she's barefoot and wearing nothing but an old-fashioned white nightgown. Suddenly, the girl looks up as though startled, and disappears into thin air. Moments later, a woman in black runs up, and sees the student watching. She comes into the Music Room and introduces herself as Zelda Gillespie, from the MACUSA Spirit Division. Agent Gillespie apologizes, and explains that while the ghosts have been asked to stay away from the students, "Elizabeth" will sneak close because she wants to listen to music. "Just like a teenager," she sighs. Noel gets the chance to ask one question before Gillespie is called away by another MACUSA agent.
🔮 Evangeline Bagman is so nervous about their parents arriving tomorrow that they try to cook up their own calming draught in the potions lab. It's too strong, though, and the fumes make them, Mr. Elmasry, and dozens of other students simply lie down and fall asleep wherever they were. At least everyone wakes up feeling well-rested. (Predicted by Gweneth)
Parent-Teacher Conferences begin today, with relatives arriving in the afternoon. A sign-up post for this event will be incoming.
-
Ariadne Flint wasn't expecting their parent(s) to be there this weekend, but spots them in the crowd mingling with other adults. They lose sight of them in the throng, however, and can't track them down again. They must have been mistaken.
It's the Annual Talent Show, and this year your family will be present for it! Exciting! Winners will be chosen with a combination of RNG and bonus points earned from audience participation and signs that your character has been practicing all month.
🎂 Happy birthday, Violet McGonagall!
The last day of Parent-Teacher Conferences. Everyone packs up and goes home. Hopefully it wasn't too stressful.
A freshman finds Antonia Papadakis to report to them that someone locked themselves in one of the bathrooms and is refusing to come out. It sounds like Ursula de Luca, who's hysterical and sobbing about her inability to live up to her mother's expectations. The incident draws a crowd when the upset student can't be talked down for nearly ten minutes, and eventually Ms. Lilywhite arrives and breaks the door down. The bathroom is empty. Meanwhile, the real Ursula wakes up, having passed out along the trail.
