• Speaking of October, the next plot calendar will be posted on September 29 at 11:59 PM MST. We have a BUSY MONTH ahead of us and I really need to finish coding it, sob. And of course, we still have one or two things left in September...!


• Mod Meggie would like you to know that you are all so cute and she loves you. Mod Marin agrees but is trying to maintain a veneer of professionalism here.


• SURPRISE EVENT: Today is Ask a Stupid Question Day! Mr. Merrill stood up during breakfast to announce that the teachers expect their students to ASK ALL THE STUPID QUESTIONS THEY WANT TODAY!!! (Some teachers laughed along with this surprise announcement, others were seen staring at Merrill with looks ranging from dread to imminent homicide.) Feel free to have your characters ask the NPCs (or you the player can just ask your mods) some "stupid questions" below, and we will try to answer them! :)

Diego asks Mr. Elmasry for stories about the things he used to get up to when he was a student cccc:

Mr. Elmasry slyly responds that Diego will have to fish elsewhere for prank ideas. He'd hate for Azurcrest to lose their reputation as the most creative house. Wait, did he say "prank ideas"? Oh no, he was a prefect and Head Boy. Mr. Elmasry was a very responsible student.

Ursula asks all of her teachers (ESPECIALLY MR. CHETTRI) if they are married or seeing someone.

You said stupid and not inappropriate? Oops. :[

OH URSULA. Here's what she (or anyone else who asks) gets:

• Calderon-Boot: Single. He laughs it off and explains that his job has always been the most important thing in his life.
  
• Hightower: He won't answer, but seems deeply amused. He offers a wise quote on the importance of relationships. He is wearing a wedding band, though.
  
• Vector: Unmarried, but has been seeing the same gentleman for ten years. Neither of them are particularly interested in tying the knot.
  
• Merrill: Happily married with two children who are recent Gooseberry grads! Ursula (or whoever asks) is then shown photos of his son and daughter, and given a rundown of their hobbies and career goals.
  
• Thorn: He just got married over the summer! He shows off his wedding photos.
  
• Elmasry: Recently ended a long term relationship, and seems reticent to talk about it. He's very vague on the details.
  
• Rhee: Teases Ursula about getting dragged into Merrill's silly games. She won't answer, though she isn't wearing a wedding band.
  
• Poe: Married, but kept her last name and doesn't want to go by Mrs.
  
• Oakes: Happily explains that he doesn't wear his wedding band in the shop because he lost the last one in an unfortunate artificing accident. Then he pulls a photo of his husband out of his wallet and it's.... MR. HIGHTOWER??? He looks incredibly pleased by the surprised reaction.
  
• Whittle: LOL SHE'S LIVING THAT SINGLE LIFE but if any handsome Vulcans want to recruit her to Starfleet they can~~~
  
• Lilywhite: Single and not worried about it. If anyone asks her during class, she takes a few points from their house.
  
• Prospero: Has been courting an elderly lady elf named Ambrosia. They both lost their previous partners in years past, but are ready to find love again~
  
• O'Hare: Married! Her young daughter is currently in Wampus house at Ilvermorny.
  
• Acuña: Very deeply in love with her equally beautiful husband. They have no children.
  
• Chettri: SO. EMBARRASSED. He stumbles and stammers over the question, but you get the impression he's definitely single.
  
• Thrussell: A widow who's still deeply in love with her dear departed husband.
  
• Covington: An eternal bachelor. He says something about how the only love he needs is the gentle wind against a field of barley.
  
• Bloom: Has been married to the love of her life since she was 20! Oh my god, that photo she shows you is ancient. How old is Mrs. Bloom anyway???
  
• Petrichor: Does not want to talk about it.
  
• Mufferaw: HEAVY SIGH. He had a divorce some years back. It was the right decision, but it was hard on his kids. He then grumbles that he took this job to avoid talking about his ex-wife, and shoos them out of the infirmary.

Will asked all his teachers - and other staff he saw - if you had to had to swap jobs with someone else at school, who and why?

For Will's classes today:

• Hightower: Considers the question seriously, and says it would have to be Mr. Covington, since it would let him spend just as much time in the gardens. Alas, he's no good with horses.
  
• Chettri: Frankly appears dismayed at the idea of not being allowed to hide in the Divination Tower for most of the day.
  
• Calderon-Boot: Has always liked the unconventional thinking in Aesthetic Magic, but if he had to choose, he might go for a subject that could benefit from some educational reform. Maybe Hermeticism? Students always seem so stressed after a Hermeticism exam.
  
• O'Hare: Haha, it's Magizoology or nothing for her, kid. Although she envies how Thorn can go forever in Outdoor Education. That man could run with centaurs!
  

And Will's Head of House, Mr. Merrill, is delighted to be asked such a thought-provoking question, and decides on Prospero after musing aloud for a minute. He's always wanted to know what it's like to be a house-elf!

Ree asks Mr. Merrill what the stupidest question a student's ever asked him is, because ~meta~. As a follow-up: what's the best prank Azurcrest has ever performed?

He solemnly reports that it's any variation of "Aren't you ever serious?"

As for pranks, young Hobbs, Merrill maintains that Azurcrests are good kids who like wholesome fun and never even once charmed a very angry wild turkey blue and locked it in the Ebonhide locker room to find the morning of the Ebonhide vs. Azurcrest game.

Regan almost falls out of her chair giggling over that mental image, and asks Mr. Merrill if she can have a fist - bump in solidarity with Azurcrest's awesome good, well-behavedness.

Rosy asks any teachers/staff she sees today how far they can recite pi. Rosy's a fucking nerd.

• Merrill tries gamely, but starts making up numbers about five digits in.
  
• Hightower doesn't even try. "I'm so sorry, Rosemary. Don't judge me too harshly, but I'm terrible at math."
  
• Oakes gives a good showing, and has a song he sings (badly) to help him remember.
  
• Elmasry gets pretty far in, punctuated by a few pauses where he tries to visualize it in his head before continuing.
  
• Whittle is confident when Rosy asks her, and gets quite a ways in before she has to admit defeat. She takes second place.
  
• Vector wins by a landslide. Poe, who was with her at the time, actually has to step in and stop her from going on. "She'll do this all day if we let her."

Kurt quietly asks Mrs. O'Hare if she thinks one could (in theory) tame a hedgehog to the point of it not needing a cage if it lived in (for example) a house or a cabin or, whatever.

First off, O'Hare assures him this isn't a stupid question. But it is a complicated one. The short answer is yes, but it would require so much special attention it might just not be worth it.

You see, it's not the animal's disposition that's the problem, it's how sensitive the little guys are. They need the room to be kept toasty to stop 'em from hibernating. And you've got to hedgie-proof the whole darn place. They like to hide, and you might lose 'em under the furniture or down a vent. They can be litterbox trained, but they sometimes shed those little quills, and no one wants one of them stuck in their toe.

It's probably better to just get a nice, big cage for your hedgehog. Or spent a lot of time and money just setting aside one special free roaming room.
