PLOT CALENDAR: October
Please note: each player is limited to one plot for the first 2 hours. (See HERE for what time that would be for you.) After that, the only limit is one plot per character. If a slot is not taken on the day of the event, you may ask to take it with your character, regardless of whether or not they already have a slot.
OCTOBER
Headmistress Bloom announces that at the end of November, each year is going to go on a weekend school trip. Event Committee has been entrusted to take student opinions on where these trips will be. Voting will commence at the end of the month once the staff have narrowed it down to a few reasonable choices.
- Each class (sophomores/juniors/seniors) will go on their own trip. Your character may not opt to go on another year's trip. Sorry!
- The trip will take place over a weekend at the end of November.
- Suggestions and voting will go much like prom court next year. A post will be put up on October 1 to accept student suggestions over the course of one week. After that, the mods will review the suggestions and choose three or four reasonable locations.
- The school trip will feature an IC/OOC for each year.
🎂 Happy birthday, Zachary Zheng!
Over breakfast, Ursula de Luca is asked to make an announcement about Event Committee's fundraiser for the Halloween Dance: date auctions! It'll take place this Saturday, so sign up fast! Auctioned students and their dates will get the VIP treatment at the dance as thanks for helping.

- Heathcliff Lacey feels watched. Is it a ghost??? No, it's just that Healer Mufferaw glares suspiciously at him whenever they cross paths in the halls. You watch yourself with his little girl, bucko.
- Bluebell seems to be adjusting well to the school, and has even befriended Lacey over the summer. As a result, she now allows Kurt Wolfhart to touch her, as well as Iliya Krum, much to his surprise. He discovers this when she playfully steals his hat. Sofia Delgado can get pretty close, but Bluebell's not ready for them to pet her just yet.
- As Adeline Foster-Hayes is approaching the lodge, she's suddenly passed by a cloud of tiny white butterflies. They spin around her and kick up a little breeze that catches her hair and clothes. Witnesses might report it was a very fairytale princess moment.
🎂 Happy birthday, Hieronymus Lee!
- At Duelling & Fencing, Sybilla Borgin and Avery Davenport get into a match that's so drawn out that Ms. Lilywhite has to intervene and call it a draw.
- Paige Ripley goes to spend some spare time up in the Divination Tower, only to find that Ms. Whittle is there hanging out with Mr. Chettri. She stays for at least an hour and talks quietly with him the whole time on one of his plush couches. When Paige tries to eavesdrop, they realize that she's explaining Star Trek to him. He seems very engrossed in the story.
🌕 HARVEST MOON
During Boating Club, a very small freshman falls out of their canoe and it's clear he can't swim (and neglected to put on a life jacket) as he sinks beneath the water. Dinah Dixon dives in to rescue him, and even in the murky water, they can see the eerie outline of a little girl with dead skin, glowing blue eyes, and long dark hair. She pushes the freshman boy safely into Dinah's arms and retreats into the darkness.
💯 In the evening, Micah St. Clair sneaks out to the Grotto to scout it for the next party, but is caught on the trail by MACUSA agents who are apparently investigating the forest during the full moon. Agent Larke marches Micah back to their head of house, who removes 15 points for trying to enter a forbidden area.

Jonathan Wilde makes the unusual discovery: the patch of garden that was granted to Gardening Club is now the home of a very, very old and somewhat confused bowtruckle. At first it seems aggressively determined to not let anyone in Gardening Club touch their plants, in a misguided attempt to protect them, but Mr. Hightower and Wilde manage to make peace with the tiny creature. On the bright side, it looks like this corner of the garden won't have to worry about pests or weeds anymore. Wilde nicknames the new resident Spore.
Whether your character is excited about it or not, it's time for Halloween Date Auctions! The Event Committee students running the event are dressed up as adorable pirates, and the waiting area for the would-be dates is a cardboard prison. Support the Halloween Dance by bidding on some of Gooseberry's hottest singles! [Character F] attempts to stage a breakout to free the "captives", which doesn't really go anywhere.
QUIDDITCH MATCH: Coppertale vs. Ebonhide
The junior Azurcrest boys wake up to discover that their precious Best Booties of Gooseberry 2014 banner has been stolen! The horror!
🌟 It's Canadian Thanksgiving, and Dinah Dixon has invited all her countrymen to join her for a SEPARATE dinner. Come make hand turkeys, eat too much, and loudly discuss the merits of socialized healthcare.

🔮 Clementine Decourt is walking home from the lodge just as the sun is setting, but they notice someone has been following them on the lonely trail. It's a tall man in a mask with a knife. Whether they run or shout at the prankster, he evades anyone's attempts to catch him. While some eyes might turn to Sylvester Stoker as the culprit, Reid Wainwright stubbornly insists that Sy was with him at the time of the sighting. (Predicted by Paige Ripley.)
Luckily for those junior jay boys, Jade Otterwell was on the case, and successfully tracks down the banner thief: a jealous freshman who thought their cabin's booties were superior! And they would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for you meddling upperclassmen and your stupid cat. It was, in fact, their familiar who miraculously sniffed out the banner, hidden in a bush behind the freshman cabin.
Sebastien Lacroix is on prefect rounds late at night when he gets the undeniable, eerie feeling he's not alone. He can feel someone standing right behind him, and feel their breath against his ear. A garbled voice, sad and a little agonized, whispers something to him: "I shouldn't have hurt you." When Bash turns around, no one's there.
Superstitions are true for Cameron Carney, who's plagued by bad luck all day. They wake up with a pimple. It's a very bad hair day. They stub their toe. Every meal served is food they dislike. (Feel free to make up more bad luck incidents that plague them today.)
🌟 Archimedes Rose has finally finished the potion that he believes will make himself and his classmates palatable to Bluebell the unicorn. He gathers up his friends (whom Hieronymus Lee insists all sign a waiver of liability) and lets them drink his newest creation. Upon first taking the potion, it does exactly what Archie said it would do: it erases all of the individual's personality flaws for one hour. However, once the hour passes, an unfortunate side-effect is revealed. Are your characters familiar with the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? (IC/OOC with more details to come.)
🎂 Happy birthday, Spencer Sweet!
Violet McGonagall and Concordia Knight are out after curfew when they see him again: the supposed "Lake Gooseberry Killer", standing at a distance in the woods, watching them. He laughs when they notice he's there, and then just walks off into the forest. He really did sound like Sylvester Stoker...

- During some time trials set up by Mr. Thorn during Archery, Charlotte Meer makes an incredible showing, outshooting everyone else.
- Natalie Prince overhears Mr. Covington stopping by the Potions classroom to ask Mr. Elmasry about fertilizer recipes. Mr. Elmasry directs him to go ask Mr. Hightower instead.
💯 Mr. Merrill shows up to classes today in a star-studded suit and floor-length cape that looks like it's lined with material that shifts with moving constellations. Why? Well, it's Wear Something Gaudy Day! A somewhat less ambitious Mr. Elmasry wears a paper Burger King crown. Peyton Ryder rushes back to their cabin between classes to get glammed up, and earns 10 points for their house, from Ms. Poe of all people.
🌟 Pumpkin carving is back again this year, co-hosted by the Crafting Club and the Event Committee. In the Atrium, club members have created a big Halloween tree from paper mache and magic, which offers students tricks and treats, costume recommendations, and spooky stories.

Rosemary Stoker is going on a hike to clear their head when they get turned around, and realize they accidentally followed a game trail that has led them too far into the woods. They're lost. The woods are something to be feared now, but panic has only just set in when Rosy smells pine needles. Brother's there, as though he always was, stepping out of the silhouettes of the trees. He holds out a hand, and Rosy can't help but take it.

🌑 NEW MOON
To some students' relief (and others' disappointment) there is no Anonymous Post tonight. Strange.
Cassius Holcomb is walking home after a late evening in the lodge when they notice a tall man in a black robe stalking them, knife flashing in his hand. They turn and hit the "Lake Gooseberry Killer" with an attack spell, knocking their mask off, and it's... Calvin Evercreech? He smiles and runs off into the woods before Cash can do anything else.
Samantha Sweeney leaves their cabin at around 3 AM to use the restroom, and on the way back sees someone in the distance. It appears to be a boy in his late teens wearing one of the masks from last year's Masquerade and a very dirty suit with a lace shawl. He's performing a dance in the middle of a circle of ravens perched on logs and rocks. He dances with his imaginary partner as though he only has the barest knowledge of ballet, and all eeriness aside, he's... really not a very good dancer. Still, Sam watches with rapt attention, but knows deep in their heart they should not interrupt. After five minutes of this, he bows to Sam, smiling brilliantly. The ravens all take off, and the boy simply walks away into the wilderness.

This month's bonding activity once again includes all years, but there might be some groans when it's announced that the entire school is going on a mandatory camping trip! The weather's starting to get chilly in Utah, but Mr. Thorn promises that they'll have plenty of bonfires to keep everyone warm.
- All students are required to attend unless they have a very good reason not to. If for some reason you'd like your character to opt out, talk to the mods, but otherwise assume that everyone must participate.
- Which brings us to tent assignments! The tents brought on this trip fit two to three people each. If you do not comment HERE saying otherwise, your tent assignment will be handled by the mods.
🔮 During Quidditch practice, Susana Velasquez gets clocked in the back of the head when their teammates accidentally drop the supply chest and a Bludger breaks free. Practice is halted as the players carries their unconscious teammate to see Healer Mufferaw. (Predicted by Heathcliff Lacey.)
QUIDDITCH MATCH: Azurcrest vs. Ribbonfin
🎂 Happy birthday, Joanna May!
Olivia Sanchez asked Ms. Lilywhite earlier in the month if she could once again help students master the Patronus Charm. This week every night after dinner, Ms. Lilywhite will be running a workshop helping all students to learn the difficult spell. She asks Casper Kim and Mackenzie Prince to assist. (IC/OOC to come!)

🎂 Happy birthday, Adeline Foster-Hayes and Todd Skynner!
- 🌟 It's the day probably only one person has been waiting for: pop superstar Taylor Swift drops 1989, her latest album. Casey Patterson invites all interested students to a listening party in the dance studio and informs Coppertale Cheer Squad that attendance is "mandatory."
- There's a rumor going around that Ursula de Luca's Patronus is an earthworm, and some helpful freshman drew an earthworm on a poster in the atrium and taped a photo of Ursula's face onto it.
- Without warning, it begins to pour in the morning. Hazel Keating gets caught in the storm without a coat, but they're rescued by Mr. Thorn who gives them a ride to wherever they were going on the back of his favorite Abraxan. He even lends them his cloak for the day, which smells pleasantly of cigar smoke.
🎂 Happy birthday, Lachlan Galbraith!
This week, Magizoology students are working with a clutch of rescued occamies, which are friendly but a bit nippy. Fern Mufferaw can't get theirs to stop giving them love bites, and ends up with their hands and arms covered in band-aids. Meanwhile, Jaime Castillo develops a special bond with their charge. The bond is so strong, in fact, that their occamy escapes and follows them back to their cabin. Jaime and their roommates are startled to come home from class and find the magical serpent has grown to fill the entire cabin. Luckily, Mrs. and Dr. O'Hare are there to help coax the beast into shrinking.

- Oh, Mr. Covington is stopping by the Potions classroom again—for the third time this week? This time, Archimedes Rose overhears that he wants to know more about the cleaning solutions the House Elves use. Mr. Elmasry thinks Prospero would know better than him.
- Mr. Calderon-Boot is working late, and Lucas Kowalski agrees to help him grade some assignments. As he works, he talks about how hard it was to turn away from his family's legacy at Ilvermorny, but there's nothing more important to him than his principles. He wanted to do something new, and be free to run his class how he wanted. As "thanks for listening to an old man ramble," he shows Lucas the spell to disable the infamous Anonymity Charm he invented last year. It's a little overwhelmingly complex, but Lucas gets the hang of it. "I know I can trust you to use this only for good. Maybe I can show you the other half one day, hm?"
Bianca Dubois is in the basement storage room getting things for tomorrow's dance when they hear what sounds like a little girl coughing. However, they're definitely alone down here. Spooked, they run out of the basement without what they came for.
🎃 Halloween Dance 🎃 is taking place tonight, so after lunch, everyone besides Event Committee is shooed out of the lodge so they can prepare the decorations.
💯 It begins snowing late in the afternoon. Estella Morales-Tran throws a snowball at Milo Greer, but misses and hits Ms. Vector instead. They lose 15 points for their house. Ouch.
- Voting for the school trips opens today! Just like with prom, votes will be anonymous, and each character gets one vote. The poll will close in one week (Nov 6).
- Mr. Covington sure does have a lot of questions for Mr. Elmasry all of a sudden. [Character C2] overhears the conversation and gets the distinct impression that Mr. Covington is making up these questions on the spot.
🎂 Happy birthday, Carolina Foster-Hayes!
Halloween. During the day, students are permitted to wear their costumes to class. That evening Rosemary Stoker organizes a night of s'mores and spooky ghost stories around the fire at Ribbonfin, and everyone can wear their costumes one last time. Just remember, you have to be back in your cabins by curfew! (You may make an IC/OOC for this event if you take this spot!)

- 🔮 However, at the end of the night, there's an uninvited guest: the ghost of a beautiful girl impaled by a branch appears at the edge of the campsite. She announces herself by saying "Boo!" (Predicted by Ennis Harper.)
- When Madison Ives breaks the silence and screams, the ghost laughs and snuffs out the campfire and all other lights around the campsite, plunging everyone into darkness. Luckily, staff quickly gets the lights working again before bedtime.
