Name: Casper Jay Kim
House & Year: Ebonhide Senior
Hometown: San Diego, California (where he lived among Muggles) & Los Angeles, California (where he lived in a wizard-only neighborhood, Elysian Fields)

School History:

Before starting at Gooseberry, Casper attended Portiuncula Preparatory Wizardry School in Los Angeles.
Casper was held back in fifth grade because he missed so much school after his mother was cursed and he had to repeat the year. He's older than most of his peers as a result.
Casper started attending Gooseberry as a freshman.

Class Involvement:

In class, Casper is serious and focused and snaps at anyone that would cause a disruption. He volunteers to answer questions and do demonstrations in subjects where he is especially confident, like Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms, but isn't a teacher's pet.
Casper never misses class unless he's seriously ill or there's some other kind of emergency.
Casper loathes groupwork and would rather do well or do poorly on his own. If pressed, he'd prefer to be paired with his roommates or Nia.

Campus Presence:

Casper doesn't believe in downtime and tries to be as productive as he can most of the time. He frequently spends time exercising (either running or swimming or working out in the gym), practicing Quidditch, playing the drums in the Music Room, or studying in the library/his cabin.
Casper always attends Dueling Club meetings and Quidditch practice, but may or may not show up for Boating Club depending on his mood. He attends Gardening Club if his roommates do (so he usually does). He hasn't tried any other clubs and doesn't intend to.
Casper gets up early every morning and runs with Clem.

Party Time:

Casper typically attends Grotto parties unless he's in a particularly bad mood or has a better offer.
Casper rarely has more than a drink or two at Grotto parties, especially after that one time before Spring Break when he got trashed enough to do body shots and play Spin-the-Bottle/Seven Minutes in Heaven. Never again. These days, he mostly sticks to water and focuses on making sure that his housemates get home safely. He never smokes.
Casper definitely isn't invested enough in Grotto parties to risk bringing contraband. The partiers are on their own and he doesn't feel bad about it.

Best Friends:

Casper's best friend is Asher Guthrie, who graduated last year. Lots of his closest friends graduated last year, including Rafael Ramirez, Leo Fiori, and Diego Morales. He's quietly unhappy about that and writes them sometimes.
Fortunately, Casper is also very close with his cabinmates: Ulysses, Iliya, Wilde, and Cameron! The five of them have a close bond forged through living together, having drunken cabin parties, and enduring various bad ghost experiences. Casper is very fond of them all and is maybe (definitely) overprotective of them. He'd move heaven and earth for those boys.
Casper's also close with Nia (his former co-prefect), who he likes and respects and trusts, and fond of Addy, Sy, and Clem (until she starts fighting with Ulysses). He's also got a soft spot for Addy's little sister, Carolina.

Cliques:

Apart from his close friends, Casper spends a lot of time with the Ebonhide Quidditch team. For obvious reasons. He likes all of them well enough and has a bond with them (especially those that were on the team in previous years) because of Leo's approach the being captain (family dinners and enduring training drills = bonding?).
Casper spends a decent amount of time alone and doesn't have any other notable cliques.

Out-of-School Social Circles:

Casper has a lot of acquaintences outside of school but few friends. He likes to spend time in the city and in clubs where he can just be an anonymous part of a crowd.
Over the summer, Casper filled in for the absent drummer in a band called Bad Rabbit and he has a decent relationship with most of the band members. He had a friends with benefits relationship with the band's singer as well.

The Not Friends:

Casper isn't particularly concerned about playing nice when he disagrees with others and is generally prickly toward everyone, probably leading people to think he dislikes them he actually doesn't mind them or doesn't think about them much one way or the other.
That said, there are people he openly dislikes. Most notable are Riley, Casey, and Sylla.

Sexuality: Casper generally thinks of himself as heterosexual and that's mostly how he's perceived, though getting wasted that one time and kissing two of his roommates during Spin-the-Bottle (one of them rather aggressively) and letting Casey do body shots off of him probably made that a bit less certain.
Dating History: Casper dated Katerina Ivanova during his junior year but abruptly broke up with her after the winter break.
Current Relationship Status: Single and not looking.

The Messy Bits:

Casper's breakup with Katya was abrupt and not particularly sensitive and didn't exactly endear him to his ex-girlfriend's housemates. Katya's no longer at Gooseberry, but there are probably still some Azurcrests that aren't his biggest fan. He regrets how things went but that's probably not the point.
Casper has publicly sworn off relationships and fooling around with anyone at Gooseberry for the year. It just seems easier. We'll see how that goes.

Common Knowledge:

Casper is from Los Angeles; he's a city boy and a California boy and he doesn't actually like being in the Great Outdoors. He consistently complains about the lake which, he's quick to inform anyone, is innately inferior to the ocean.
Casper lives with his aunt, a librarian at the Elysian Archives, and the relationship seems to be somewhat strained.
Despite being a surly prick that seems like he ought to be a loner, Casper's involved in a great deal around the school. He's a prefect, he's a Quidditch player (he's a Beater and plays very aggressively), and he's a musician that used to be a member of one of the school bands before the other three members graduated.
He briefly dated another prefect, Katya Ivanova, before they broke up after winter break. Katya didn't return to Gooseberry for her senior year.
Casper's a parselmouth.

Personal Stuff:

Casper's mother used to be an Auror and was cursed when he was a child. She spent eight years in a state similar to a coma before finally passing away when he was seventeen. This is why he was out of school for a week last semester and her worsening condition in the months prior to her death caused a lot of emotional strain and many of last year's other upheavals (like his fight with Solo and his breakup with Katya).
Casper strongly considered leaving his position as a prefect to be Ms. Lilywhite's TA, but the position has come to be very important to him over the last two years and he decided against it even though he still thinks being a teaching assistant would've been better for him personally when the time comes to get into an Auror program. He's still not sure he made the right call.
Casper genuinely worries about the sort of person he is and whether or not his bitterness, his temper, and his other shortcomings will always be something that he can manage. He struggles with destructive and self-destructive impulses at times and doesn't know what he'd be capable of if he stopped struggling or didn't have friends that made him want to be a better person. These doubts have only ever been articulated in front of the other students that went in search of the heart.

The Secrets:

At some point, Casper's Patronus went from being a lynx to being a bear. He's slightly reluctant to cast it in front of other people because he's certain he'll get shit for it. Because there's some pretty obvious symbolism with regard to his Ebonhide roommates that he'd do anything for and his Ebonhide friends and Ms. Rhee, who chose him to be a prefect and has given him more chances than he feels he deserves. He knows this will come up eventually but he's putting it off.
Nothing else, really.

Rumors:

There's nothing specific that I'm aware of, but there could easily be rumors about why he left school for a week last year, about why he and Katya broke up/why Katya didn't come back to school, and potentially about his fight with Solo over winter break. Any of these things would irritate Casper; he hates gossip.
During his freshman year there were rumors that he was a dark wizard because of his parselmouth ability. This had mostly stopped going around by his sophomore year but could surface again now that he's got a snake for a familiar. Even if it is a silly little hognose snake.
