Amortentia was before my time and tbqh I am heartbroken that I missed it because I love talking about how my characters smell??? And since it happened a few months ago now and we've had plenty of ~character development~ in the intervening time, so maybe things have changed for one or more of your characters? This is a meme for revisiting the amortentia potion - what does your character smell when they get a whiff of it? What scents are associated with your character? And what does your character smell like, in general?

Name: Xavier "Taco" Lewis
What do they smell?
Xavier is hit with the smells of his favorite spices, first: fresh rosemary, fennel and ginger, cayenne and coriander and turmeric. As the smell gets earthier it gives way to freshly turned mossy dirt, mud and humid air. Algae. Maybe a little fishy, reminiscent of both the Ohio River in spring and the Ribbonfin campgrounds. From there, faintly, the hints of the senior Ribbonfins’ cabins, both boys and girls. Some of the scents specifically call up the memories of specific Ribbonfriends. And then, at the end, is that...feathers? bird dander???? Dude. Fucked up.
What smells are they associated with?
Unsurprisingly, Xavier smells a bit sweet, like hot sugar. There are spicy notes too - cinnamon, cardamom and clove. His shampoo is distinct and smells a bit like if smarties and the decorative soaps your grandma puts behind the terlet had a baby. Go ahead make fun of him but you can’t deny these locks are luscious. He kind of smells like a chai cinnamon bun in a candy store. But, like, in an inoffensive way.

What do they smell?
Ivy's smells are organized roughly by boldest to mellowest: Turpentine. The thick campfire smoke you get when you burn wet wood. Rubber cement and magazines. Oil paint. Rubber and canvas - like a brand new pair of sneakers. An empty inkwell before you clean it. Brand new textbooks, but also really old books. Cotton candy and powdered sugar. Ocean air. A bathroom after you've spent an hour getting ready - hairspray and makeup and soap. The laundry detergent her mother uses.

What smells are they associated with?
Her perfume is warm and earthy; sandalwood, patchouli and amber. Her shampoo smells clean and crisp, like lemongrass and cucumber. The paint and chemical smells from the aesthetics classroom sometimes stick to her clothes. And she always has hand sanitizer with her - a little sweeter and softer than rubbing alcohol.

Name: Ravinder Dhaliwal

What do they smell? Grass and falling autumn leaves, the musty old book smell of the library, curry spice, the Ribbonfin stream during the warmest days of spring, campfire smoke, and Diego's bay rum aftershave and cedar cologne. Except for the curry spice (from home, obviously), most of Ravi's smells are associated with Gooseberry. He's going to miss this place a lot when he graduates. :(

What smells are they associated with? Most strongly is the copious hair potion he uses (which mostly has a smoky vanilla scent), but also the lanolin smell of expensive wool, old books (paper and leather bindings and dust), and just a little bit of horse sweat and mint. Since Christmas, he's been wearing the cologne which Rafael gave him.

Anything else? Almost exactly the same as October except now smelling Diego's aftershave in his Amortentia isn't so embarrassing to him. It's still kind of embarrassing. BUT I'M REPOSTING THIS ANYWAY FOR FUN

What do they smell? Not a lot. Clean air. Ozone. Dust, like the scent of a room you haven't opened in months. And at the end, a ghostly hint of cinnamon sugar.
What smells are they associated with? Light sweat, off-brand deodorant, Quidditch leathers, coppery metallic tang. Alternatively: 🦆, feathers, dander and mud.

What do they smell?
Mixed perfumes. The damp, lakey smell of the Slytherin dungeons. Her cat's fur. Molasses and oats. Dark coffee. Dry champagne. Silver polish. The musty old carpeting from her bedroom at her parents' house.

What smells are they associated with?
Roses, but oversweet, and something sharp and citrusy. Maybe grapefruit. Nailpolish. Something grassy and sweet - fresh hay?

Anything else? I reserve the right to add more onto these later when I'm feeling more thoughtful

What do they smell? Baking bread, roses of several intensities, lit matches, wet pavement, campfire, library. There's a hint of sand and ocean in there and a dollop of hazelnut latte.

What smells are they associated with? Dirt and fresh herbs, soap, something vaguely metallic (like blood, but less um gross), glue and grip tape (skateboards!), white pepper, sunflowers.

What do they smell? Dozens of varieties of wand woods and cores, wood lacquer, horses, hay, her mother's perfume, warm fur/clean dog. As of recently, maybe a little bit of Ulysses' cologne (or whatever that upstanding young man smells like).

What smells are they associated with? Aggressive, unsubtle jasmine and rose perfume. If anyone's ever smelled Lust (http://www.lushusa.com/perfume/perfume/lust/9999905271.html) at Lush... it's something like that. Very wannabe femme fatale. Under that, the same wand components she works with, coconut shampoo, dessert wine.

Anything else? Kenzie didn't get to do this! I apped her like... days before Amortentia happened.

What do they smell?
Dimi gets a lot of clean, chemically smells - oil paints and turpentine, acid and developing fluid, faint hints of bleach and peroxide. There’s also the warm smells of old books and leather and a crackling fireplace. He can smell hot tea with lemon and quidditch leathers - which he instantly associates with friends he left behind on bad terms and it makes him a sad panda.
What smells are they associated with?
The waxy cocoa butter smell of his lip balm. A deep, mellow, bitter but not unpleasant smell, like dark chocolate. Air just before a snow. The stale fabric smell of a blanket that's been laid out in a window in the sun for ages.

What smells are they associated with? Worn-out ballet shoe leather, nailpolish, post-dance sweat (depending on the time of day), dirt. Her perfume is earthy with some spice and a hint of rose.

Nothing surprising.

The smell of the forest and the morning dew. Lady Cecilia. Sheep's wool, lanolin. Teo. Cole. Prospero and the rudiments classroom. Various art supplies. A very specific smell of woodsmoke.

What smells are they associated with?:

Spearmint, eucalyptus, and lavender handmade soap that's meant for stress relief. Faint lanolin smell in a few of his knitwear. Cheap dry shampoo. Baked goods. Varying burned herbs.

I JUST WANNA LET EVERYONE KNOW that the amortentia plot encouraged me to make a 4am inpulse Amazon purchase of Axe Deep Space body wash just because I said that's the soap Levi uses. I spent $9 on it because it's discontinued and it doesn't even smell that great.

What smells are they associated with? Camphor and menthol from topical painkillers, an expensive citrus cologne (Lime Water Infusion, Lemon, Orange Flower Templar, Crisp Basil, Wild Mint, Neroli, Oakwood, Patchouli), and athletic guy sweat if you catch him post-dance and pre-shower.

Anything else? So idk if it's obvious but he's really into Leo.

What do they smell? In the amortentia potion? Chris's potion has drastically changed from October. He still smells home and food (and Ryan) but where Levi had dominated a large part of his potion in October, Levi is nearly nonexistent now. Now Levi exists only in small part inside of larger loves, like the smell of sweat and mud (and blood). Now Chris smells Rosy's body wash and shampoo and highlighter ink and notebook paper.
What smells are they associated with? the crisp air of fall, sweat, something metallic, like blood, the detergent his mom uses which is always strongest during the first week of school, sandalwood

What do they smell? Aloe, sage, wildflowers baking under a hot sun, campfire smoke, and hay. There's now a strong note of Ravi's vanilla hair potion and wool sweaters, and any hint of beeswax has since been consumed by the flowers and vanilla. There's a little bit of fig in there now, too.

What smells are they associated with? Bay rum, campfire smoke, a cedar based cologne, whiskey.

Anything else? The fig thing was romantic. :(
