sooo
i thought this would be fun & then forgot about it & then was reminded so:
yes!

let's talk about various writin' related charactery things! ♥
also looking at handwriting-type fonts is fun, so
here's an excuse.

answer these as much or as little as you like--

✉ Character Name:
✉ Writing Style: Anything notable about the way they write in the journals? Is it different from the way they write for school assignments? Less punctuation, doodling? Cursive v. print? Messy v. neat?
✉ Stationery & implements: Is your character the type to use cutesy patterned paper? Colored gel pens? Quills? Do they have special paper for class or notes? What's their planner look like?
✉ Example handwriting: Show off an example of their writing, if you want!! If it's a font, maybe note the name for reference/proper credit. c:

Levi Kramer

[personal profile] gdilevi 2016-12-17 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Levi Kramer
Writing Style: All capital letters, sharp edges to his letters. Large letters, varying degrees of legibility. Long lines of text tend to slant upward.
Stationery & implements: Levi uses the standard wizarding tools (parchment and quill) but has recently swapped to using pencils to take his notes. Instead of taking written notes, he has a tendency to draw out his notes instead. Example of notes.
Example handwriting:

sheepish: (Default)

Ennis Harper

[personal profile] sheepish 2016-12-17 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Ennis Harper
Writing Style: Neat, small lettering. Letters are spaced close together, lines slant downward. Somewhat feminine handwriting, sort of gender-neutral? (idk, look down there and you decide) Writes in print for journals, writes a mix of print-cursive for notes because it's faster.
Stationery & implements: I feel like Ennis owns a lot of really nice stationary, but rarely uses it. He's the type who's always saving it for a "special occasion" and it just ends up sitting in a drawer for a year because he can't justify breaking it out or he talks himself out of it by determining that the stationary is too fancy for the occasion.

He uses a Muggle-style folder with brads for his notes and lined notebook paper. He uses a muggle pen for notes because sometimes he presses down too hard on the quills and snaps the tips of them.
Example handwriting:

Wilde

[identity profile] destructobot.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: JONATHAN VINCENT WILDE
Writing Style: Blah. Legible, but somewhat messy. For assignments he may try to class things up a bit, but.
Stationery & implements: Spiral-bound notebooks and mechanical pencil. He has a secret journal with a super nice cover that he writes his ~poetry~ in, which is ULTRA MEGA SECURITY CHARMED. He also has "nice" pens to use for public journaling, but honestly what's the point? There's no point. Anyway. You will see his chicken-scratch in some smooth purples and blues here and there.
Example handwriting:

Image
font! (http://www.dafont.com/aries.font?text=Whatever&back=theme) i found it by searching for his signnnn.
momblogger: (Default)

[personal profile] momblogger 2016-12-17 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Magdalen Gillis
Writing Style: Ultra-preppy and ultra-feminine writing, mostly cursive. Uses print in the journals because people complained. Even spacing, even lines.
Stationery & implements: MAGGIE LOVES HER CUTESY STATIONARY AND SHE LOVES HER GLITTER PENS and I feel like she has a lot of stickers and press-stamps she uses to make things even cutesier. Maggie loves dressing up a piece of paper with unnecessary aesthetics.
Example handwriting: (I tried and I can't do cursive as neatly as she would. SO I DID PRINT INSTEAD, but it's sloppier than she would write because Maggie's handwriting is so far from my own chicken scratch, it's hard for me to imitate. Her lettering is neater and more consistent and doesn't have the obvious hand-fatigue that I had.)

choneychurch: (Default)

Cecil Honeychurch

[personal profile] choneychurch 2016-12-17 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Cecil Honeychurch
Writing Style: Cecil has neat, thin handwriting that has very little slant and a modest amount of curvy flair. He just likes good penmanship, okay?
Stationery & implements: Cecil is equally comfortable writing with a quill & ink or a simple pen and isn't particularly picky when it comes to paper. All of his notes are carefully color-coded and organized, though.
Example handwriting:

Z

[identity profile] valentinez.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Zoey Valentine
Writing Style: Neat, somewhat flourish-y loopy cursive. She's a little reserved on the journals, and it's often obvious that she's thought a little bit about what to say before writing anything down. Her "Z" always has a flourish. Likes to end sentences with an x or two on the journals (ex: "Hi. xx").
Stationery & implements: Ballpoint pens. She uses a quill and parchment to write to family, though. Z is very "no nonsense" about this stuff -- all of her things are utilitarian, well-organized, color-coded, etc. That said, she cherishes gifts of journals and uses them for private babbling about Divination and lil baby potions recipes. There's a stack of full ones with various covers among her things.
Example handwriting:

Dahlia (lol ignore that last comment)

[identity profile] degenerateart.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Dahlia Hale
Writing Style: Loopy and slightly messy depending on the occasion. Though she writes mostly in print she's really good at writing in cursive and loves practicing her calligraphy.
Stationery & implements: Dahlia isn't fussy about what she writes on but prefers to use regular paper instead of parchment and pens and pencils instead of quills. She doesn't care about stationery or anything like that, but has a special set and a custom wax seal stamp with a midnight blue wax (https://www.inkt.co.nz/bmz_cache/7/7bd7133f2700a18ce39ccdf18ee79ff5.image.550x550.jpg) that she'll use for special occasions. She's particular about the kind of pens she uses and prefers mechanical pencils.
Example handwriting: like this (http://www.dafont.com/sweetly-broken.font?text=Dahlia+Lilith+Hale)
duelled: (Default)

i almost just left the html fuckup but i COULD NOT

[personal profile] duelled 2016-12-17 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Ivy Templeton
Writing Style: Ivy's handwriting is built for speed and legibility. GOTTA KEEP THOSE NOTES COMING, MAN. It's very easy to read, but not tight or regular - she'll sometimes stick a flourish on a y or leave a few strokes of a letter unconnected or use a cursive capital instead of a print one. Her lines are very straight and she rarely makes errors (a trait I do not share with her so we'll have to use THEATER OF THE MIND)
Stationery & implements: Ivy has. So many quills. Holy shit, you guys. She's basically a collector. She carries most of her writing implements in a wrap pencil case and will always lend you a quill if you need one. Even if you don't give them back afterwards. She also has a handful of mechanical pencils and other nomaj writing tools, but she uses them less frequently than her quills.
Example handwriting: Unrulyness

Wes

[identity profile] paytee.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Wes Carpenter
Writing Style: Absolutely nothing. Very plain, doesn't know cursive at all. Pretty nondistinctive. Since Cajuns are big on spoken word tradition he doesn't put much value in his penmanship.
Stationery & implements: The cheapest ballpoint pens from Walmart. Fancy pens are for dem rich folk. And the cheapest paper too.
Example handwriting: here (http://www.dafont.com/daniel.font?text=Wes+Carpenter%2C+y%27all&back=theme)
sylla: (Default)

Sylla

[personal profile] sylla 2016-12-17 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Sybilla Borgin
Writing Style: She has the background of being taught fine cursive by her mother, but often can't be bothered to stick to it and doesn't connect her letters. It's quick and doesn't vary from her notes to her writing on the journals.
Stationery & implements: Quills and parchment, traditional old-fashioned stationery from Britain. Leather-bound and almost Victorian. For letters she has a personalized monogrammed set that looks like it could have been made in 1840, complete with a wax seal.
Example handwriting: here.
orangepip: (+ incredulous)

Re: Sylla

[personal profile] orangepip 2016-12-17 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
okay but

I love that Sylla's font is called Jack Ripper Hand
orangepip: (+ item one on the agenda)

[personal profile] orangepip 2016-12-17 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Pippa Nightingale
Writing Style: Loopy and cute cursive with a tendency to become a bit messy when she's excited or writing quickly. She finds it hard to write in a straight line when using blank paper.
Stationery & implements: Quills or a fountain pen. She loves different coloured inks and cute stationery.
Example handwriting:

unregrettable: (+ considering)

[personal profile] unregrettable 2016-12-17 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Henrietta Gray
Writing Style: A narrow and upright print that's pretty neat. No twiddles or ornaments here. Her handwriting is fairly consistent.
Stationery & implements: Biro or fineliners in Azurcrest blue! She prefers paper to parchment, and has a Muggle notebook for keeping all her Quidditch notes in.
Example handwriting:

firecoral: (Default)

[personal profile] firecoral 2016-12-17 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Coralee Wong
Writing Style: A rounded print with the occasional loop or joined-up letter. Confident, playful, and girly.
Stationery & implements: She uses Dictaquills to take notes in class and write essays, because she's lazy. Handwritten notes are done on personalised stationery (probably her initials with a little gold crown above them or something).
Example handwriting:

lovelacing: (+ content)

[personal profile] lovelacing 2016-12-17 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Irene Lovelace
Writing Style: A fast and efficient cursive for taking extensive notes and writing essays, but with a little decoration on her capital letters. Slightly difficult for non-Europeans to read because of quirks in writing certain letters and numbers. I discovered Sütterlin when I was writing Irene's app, and it struck me as something that wizards would have kept up.
Stationery & implements: A fountain pen if she's going for speed, otherwise a quill. She likes good quality parchment, but can't always afford it.
Example handwriting:

lovelacing: (= yeahhh)

[personal profile] lovelacing 2016-12-17 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay just pretend that Irene's sample handwriting is slightly neater, because doing hers was HARD and my scrawl is starting to creep through...

quinning: (/ writing)

[personal profile] quinning 2016-12-17 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Quinn Cunningham
Writing Style: Clear printing that borders on 'I'm trying really hard not to add flourishes because I don't have the time.'
Stationery & implements: Prefers ballpoint pens (colour-coded) and spiral notebooks (also colour-coded) for schoolwork, is perfectly fine with quills and parchment in her daily life but finds them less practical when taking notes.
Example handwriting:

quinning: (Default)

[personal profile] quinning 2016-12-17 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I should also mention font names. Quinn's is Pea Effieboo.
puphart: (Default)

[personal profile] puphart 2016-12-17 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Kurt Wolfhart
Writing Style: Big capitals, small letters (ugh I can't remember the word for "non-capital" rn), inconsistent letter sizes. A little too much pressure sometimes.
Stationery & implements: Quills and parchment but he doesn't really care what kind or where they came from.
Example handwriting:
lovelacing: (= thoughtful)

[personal profile] lovelacing 2016-12-17 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)

indiefolk: (❥ 031)

[personal profile] indiefolk 2016-12-17 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Diego Constantino Morales
Writing Style: Sloppy and loopy, but jagged and rough at the same time. Writes too quickly, which leads to some confusion over... wait, is that an o or an a? That lowercase i is just a dot? Come on, Diego, slow down.
Stationery & implements: Diego writes either with a quill, fountain pen, or a brush pen. He hates ballpoint pens, and pencils are usually reserved for drawing. His notes are a mess. There are a lot of them and he's not very organized.
Example handwriting: Because I was lazy and had silly notes on Diego's drawings that means...

lovelacing: (+ ecstatic)

[identity profile] smudging.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Martina Fanning.
Writing Style: Big & rushed & sloppy.
Stationery & implements: LOL, no. Typically, she'll write on the back of a napkin, or the back of her hand if she must.
Example handwriting: Luna Bar Font (http://www.dafont.com/luna-bar.font?text=Martina+Fanning&psize=l&back=theme)

[identity profile] windless.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Gavin Ogletree.
Writing Style: Near-perfect, thoughtful cursive. For srs business, obviously.
Stationery & implements: He does have his own set of stationary, courtesy of his parents. NGL, it has his initials in gold in the right-hand bottom corner, because fancy.
Example handwriting: Simplesnails (http://www.dafont.com/simplesnails.font?text=Gavin+Ogletree&back=theme)
ninjaleo: (061)

Leo Fiori

[personal profile] ninjaleo 2016-12-17 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Leo Fiori
Writing Style: neat and controlled cursive, punctuated with too tall capital letter, which probably get slantier than this font thing is able to show, but now you can ~imagine~
Stationery & implements: Lots of notebooks. All very neatly labelled, except for his heavily warded Quidditch playbook which he's marked "My Diary" to be RUDE. He uses a series of pens, all black ink, he isn't fancy. He has like one box of really nice letter paper that is just some shade of white that he got as a gift at some point.
Example handwriting:
This is called haiku script I guess
bambae: (Default)

Chris Park

[personal profile] bambae 2016-12-17 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Christopher Park
Writing Style: His letters are close together, bordering on cursive, with a tendency toward sloppy. When taking notes, he writes more carefully, so his handwritting is a lot clearer.
Stationery & implements: Pens and pencils. He can't do that ink and quill shit. His notes tend to be colorcoded and organized.
Example handwriting: like this

Bailey Hartman.

[identity profile] cyrano.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Bailey Hartman.
Writing Style: Neat and orderly, leans to the right, becomes increasingly swoopier and leans more when she's in a hurry. Doodles hearts above her i's instead of the dots.
Stationery & implements: She prefers pens, any pens, with no preference toward the color although if she can get her hands on a purple pen she'll use it for special notes. No special paper either, she's pretty simple, nor does she have a planner.
Example handwriting: Sara's Font 1 (http://www.dafont.com/saras-font-1.font?text=Bailey+%22Bae%22+Hartman&psize=s&back=theme)

Addy!

[personal profile] addytives 2016-12-17 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Addy Foster-Hayes
Writing Style: Big, kind of loopy, messy and hurried! Lots of random capital letters that then morph into lowercase as she gets lazy.
Stationery & implements: GLITTER PENS AND COLORED MARKERS ALL DAY, BABY. She very very rarely writes in black and even/especially uses orange and yellow, thus blinding everyone frequently.
Example handwriting:Lula Belle also why is her name so long

Garrett Ogletree.

[identity profile] isolate.insanejournal.com 2016-12-17 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name:
Writing Style: Tiny and barely legible, honestly, when he's passing notes between friends and stuff. At least that way if your teacher picks it up, they'll need half of the class to properly read it. Larger, neater, and with more flourish when writing to his parents or an internship.
Stationery & implements: He has personalized stationary with his initials embroidered at the top-center in silver. Thank you, parents. However, he only uses that to write letters home to them and to apply for internships. Otherwise, he uses regular paper, whatever is on hand, and whatever writing implement is on hand, though he prefers black ink pens. His planner looks like this (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/cb/74/e2/cb74e2900648f64660fedcb3d9365d4d.jpg).
Example handwriting: Elegant Dragon (http://www.dafont.com/elegant-dragon.font?text=Garrett+%22Sly%22+Ogletree), because of course his handwriting would be called something like Elegant Dragon.
