USA PRO QUIDDITCH, now a semi-regular feature
This is a monster post because I'm two weeks behind, which is entirely IJ's fault
WEEK THREE
At the end of the first phase, this is how the scores stood.
Phoenix ranked in at 450, just missing advancement. Their expected spot went instead to Washington DC. Also missing advancement were Sparks and Elysian Fields, and with three top-ranked teams knocked out of competition, the playing field is left open for teams like Middletown, Princeville, and Roanoke, which are all currently tied for sixth place.
Galesburg put up a particularly poor showing this year, ranking dead last with only 8 goals scored and no snitches caught. Following their disappointing final match, their seniormost chaser Buddy Schulze announced that he was leaving the team to take an advisory position at Contrail, a top-of-the-line broom manufacturer.
Teams Advancing: Belvedere, Drake Kill, Fitchburg, Klamath, Middletown, Olympus, Point Pleasant, Princeville, Roanoke, Sweetwater, Wasilla, Washington DC
PHASE TWO MATCH-UPS
WEEK FOUR
Far and away the most exciting game this week was Roanoke vs Wasilla. Over the course of the 90 minute game, Roanoke's beaters took out two starting chasers and two reserves, leaving Wasilla's chasing team extremely short-handed. Wasilla was awarded three penalty shots over the course of this match and missed all of them.
Fitchburg gains on Drake Kill, while Wasilla and Point Pleasant fall behind the pack.
WEEK FIVE
Belvedere did an admirable job preventing Drake Kill from widening their lead, catching the snitch when they were 90 points down to prevent the scoreboard leader from scoring any more goals. Wasilla, with a chasing team still recovering from heavy injuries, scored only 3 goals against up-and-comers Klamath.
In a week of close matches with strong work from keepers and beaters, Fitchburg wiped the floor with Washington DC, scoring forty goals over the course of the lengthy five hour game. They now have a 270 point lead over Drake Kill, and both teams are considered safe to advance to phase three.
While Wasilla is currently in 12th place with 580 points, a good match for them next week (or bad ones for everyone else) could still earn them a spot in the third phase, so nobody's out of the running just yet!
