in-game rpg system?

although we try not to break the space-time continuum TOO MUCH in this game, what do you guy think about using 5e as a starting point IC for the mean girls and crit & run D&D events? (that's the edition we used for jj's OOC D&D campaign.)

my brain won't let me write a cohesive paragraph about this so instead i'll make some points in a list!

1. a lot of players are familiar with it
2. i think it's pretty user-friendly?
3. prior knowledge wouldn't be necessary no matter what. when relevant things need to be known IC i'll link them for reference, and 90% of the mechanics will probably be hand-waved, anyways.
4. it would be fine if characters referred to earlier D&D systems for stuff like races/classes/etc.

& if this isn't allowed because it's anachronism, it's no problem :)

FWIW the 5e beta started in 2012 - 2013ish. And the later versions of the beta were pretty similar to the final product which came out March 2014 so you can probs handwave timing that way.

Also I am 100% cool with this.
